Introducing 'ATMOVIE GLOBAL TRACK': A Unique Program for Aspiring Global Producers

Introduction to ATMOVIE GLOBAL TRACK

The ATMOVIE GLOBAL TRACK program is being launched by Atmovie Co., aiming to produce global producers who can lead international co-productions in the film industry. This program is part of the 'Creative Support Project' funded by the Japan Arts Council. It seeks to deliver moving and thrilling works from Japan to the world, paving the way for participants to succeed on international stages.

Participants selected as finalists will have the unique opportunity to present their project pitches at the prestigious 79th Cannes Film Festival. Importantly, no prior experience as a producer is necessary to apply.

Background of the Program

The Japanese film market continuously generates numerous works, predominantly utilizing a production committee model involving multiple companies sharing funding. This method provides a stable foundation for creating hit films; however, it also increases the hurdles for original proposals from creators to reach theater screens. Conversely, the global film market is witnessing a surge in investments for original ideas, spurred by the rise of video streaming platforms and strategic cultural support initiatives. To harness this momentum, Japanese creators must develop the mindset and practical skills needed to lead international co-productions.

Features of ATMOVIE GLOBAL TRACK

The program is designed with the objectives of honing skills and mindsets essential for overseas expansion. From January to June 2026, participants will gain the necessary skills to finish an English pitch for their original project. An internal selection process will identify five finalists, who will then pitch their projects at the Cannes Film Festival, held alongside the 'Marché du Film', where Japan has been chosen as the 'Country of Honour'. This offers a rare opportunity for the spotlight on Japanese cinema as a global player.

Mentorship from Industry Professionals

The program features seasoned producers who are actively involved in film and television production as mentors. Unlike conventional programs focusing solely on lectures and technical guidance, it emphasizes interactive communication among mentors and participants. This approach aims to nurture a producer's mindset, enhancing both perspectives and capabilities. Participants will also receive support through coaching to streamline their ideas and emotions towards achieving their goals. Mentors are listed on the program’s dedicated webpage as they are confirmed.

Chief Mentor's Perspective

Takashi Moriya, the CEO of Atmovie and chief mentor, shared his insights from attending last year's Cannes Film Festival. He observed international producers comfortably pitching their projects in English, regardless of whether it was their first language. This prompted him to consider the position of Japanese producers in the global market. He strongly believes that as Japanese content gains international attention, it is crucial for creators to present their projects in their own words, conveying their passion and spirit. Thus, he initiated this global-focused training program to enable emerging creators to bring their heartfelt projects to the world. The program welcomes not only producers but anyone with a project idea eager to share their passion.
