Urgent Care Association Welcomes New Leadership
On September 9, 2025, the Urgent Care Association (UCA) announced the appointment of Steve Sellars as its new Chief Executive Officer. This change in leadership follows the retirement of Lou Ellen Horwitz, who served as CEO during two pivotal periods for the association, first from 2006-2012 and more recently since June 2020. Horwitz’s tenure saw the organization through significant challenges and evolution, making her contributions invaluable to UCA.
UCA President Gerry Cvitanovich, MD, expressed gratitude for Horwitz's leadership, highlighting her role in laying the groundwork for the future of the association. “We can't thank Lou Ellen enough for her leadership through one of our most challenging seasons as a field,” he stated.
Steve Sellars brings over 20 years of expertise from his previous role as CEO of Premier Health, a regional healthcare company known for its urgent care and occupational health services. His extensive background and understanding of the industry's dynamics position him well to lead UCA into its next evolution.
As an advocate for accessible and value-based healthcare solutions, Sellars has been actively involved with UCA for years, serving in various leadership and advisory capacities. His commitment to innovative care delivery models aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and improve patient outcomes.
In a statement regarding his new position, Sellars expressed his honor at stepping into the role of CEO. “I want to sincerely thank the UCA Search Committee for their confidence in me. I also want to acknowledge Lou Ellen, whose guidance has significantly impacted UCA and shaped my career path. I know I have big shoes to fill, and I'm committed to building on the strong foundation that's been laid.”
Sellars emphasized his appreciation for the colleagues and partners he has worked with over the past two decades, expressing enthusiasm for collaborating with the UCA team and stakeholders nationwide. “I look forward to advancing the initiatives that matter most to our industry and the communities we serve,” he said.
