Introduction to RAW05
From September 12 to 23, 2026, the performance series RAW05 will take center stage at the Shibuya Park Gallery in Tokyo. This event emphasizes the themes of care and art, providing attendees with various immersive experiences. Under the artistic direction of Keiichi Ikegami, renowned for his unique approach to body perception, participants will explore the connection between physical sensations and artistic expression. The RAW series, which began in 2021, aims to create spontaneous interactions between artists and audiences in a gallery setting, using mediums such as music, dance, and dialogue.
Workshops and Performances
One of the highlights of the event is the workshop titled "Wear Your Tension: Memories of the Body on T-Shirts." Participants will use white T-shirts as a canvas to mark areas of tension on their bodies with red stickers. This hands-on activity allows individuals to externalize their own bodily memories, culminating in a unique display of T-shirts that visually narrate each participant's experience. The exhibit invites viewers to consider connections between themselves and others, reflecting shared human experiences.
Scheduled from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the workshops are free to join and do not require prior reservations. Noteworthy facilitation sessions on September 12 and 13, conducted by Ikegami himself, will further enhance participants' engagement. The finished T-shirt artworks will be showcased starting September 15.
Another Innovative Workshop
Another fascinating workshop is titled "Sounding the Body's Memory with Organs."
In this session, participants will transform their personal sensations of tension, pain, and recovery into musical notes. The Organs will serve as a tool to record these memories, effectively creating small melodies that embody individual physical narratives. This laid-back workshop encourages spontaneous attendance, making it accessible for anyone interested in exploring their body's memories musically. Like the T-shirt workshop, this experience runs from September 12 to September 23 and is also free of charge.
Featured Performance
On September 23, a special performance titled "Is Tension a Behavioral Issue?" will take place. The Performance will feature the 'Problematic Behavior Trio,' consisting of notable artists like Makoto Nomura for music, and performers Arata Sakuma and Ri Sareno, who will collaborate to present a unique fusion of music and dance, examining tension through a performative lens. This performance is devised to stimulate thought around body awareness and interpersonal relationships in context with physical sensations.
Visual Showcase and Documentation
Throughout the event, attendees will not only engage in workshops and performances but will also have the chance to view a recorded interview with Ikegami, as well as documentation of the event via an online screening after its conclusion. The visual direction has been handled by Daiku Yamashiro of Twelve Inc., ensuring that the essence of these experiences is accessible to a wider audience.
