Discover the Exciting New Project 'PIZZA FOR CINEMA' Connecting Film and Food

PIZZA FOR CINEMA: A New Flavorful Experience

On February 14, 2023, the project 'PIZZA FOR CINEMA' will kick off at the CINEMA CONCESSION LAB, 'Shimokitazawa Genzôjô,' run by MotionGallery, one of Japan's largest crowdfunding platforms. This unique project aims to bridge the worlds of film and culinary arts by offering limited-edition pizzas inspired by beloved films.

The concept involves various creators—including filmmakers and artists—crafting original pizzas based on movies that have significantly impacted their lives. Each month, a different theme movie will guide the creation of a special pizza, giving patrons a new way to engage with cinema.

The Vision Behind PIZZA FOR CINEMA

MotionGallery is excited to expand the cinematic experience beyond simply watching films. With 'PIZZA FOR CINEMA,' movie lovers can explore multi-sensory interactions by enjoying flavors that evoke the stories and emotions from the films they cherish. This project invites creativity and collaboration among artists, chefs, and movie enthusiasts, blending the recipes of cinematic art and culinary expertise.

What to Expect Monthly

Every month features a different creator who develops a pizza inspired by a film. For instance:

defining February's specialty, Takuaki Kumagai will present a burnt tomato and orange Margherita pizza inspired by his favorite movie, Midnight in Paris. Kumagai, a director and choreographer known for his experimental dance theater, captures the essence of the film’s dialogue about beauty and fleeting time within the flavors of his pizza. The layered taste combines the bitterness of burnt tomatoes with sweet oranges to reflect the rich, romantic visuals of Paris.

As the project unfolds, creators will keep inventing and revealing their delightful dishes, with the creator and pizza details shared via social media.

Monthly Highlights

  • - March: Join Ariho Kawauchi and Daisuke Miyoshi, who present a half-and-half seafood pizza based on their upcoming film Rokkoku Kitchen, addressing the realities of life in post-disaster Fukushima. The flavors will reflect the contrasting elements of the sea and dark evening.

  • - April: Yuta Chikauchi plans to present a pizza that embodies sensuality and brutality, inspired by Inglourious Basterds, exploring the flavors and sensations derived from this artfully crafted narrative.

Special Events

Mark your calendars for special events during the project's run! On February 21, a snack event will feature a release celebration for Takuaki Kumagai's pizza, inviting guests to discuss the film and culinary inspirations. This is a unique opportunity for fans to mingle and share their cinematic passions while enjoying gourmet pizzas!

Looking Forward

MotionGallery remains dedicated to expanding the cinematic experience and supporting filmmakers and creators. 'PIZZA FOR CINEMA' is part of an ongoing commitment to merge film culture with everyday life, aiming to articulate the realities of being a film lover through innovative culinary experiences.

Stay tuned for more updates as additional chefs and themes will be announced, enhancing the connection between the flavors on our plates and the stories on our screens.
