BLUETTI and UN-Habitat Strengthen Partnership for Clean Energy Accessibility in Africa

A Clean Energy Initiative for Africa: BLUETTI and UN-Habitat

In a significant move toward enhancing access to clean, sustainable energy in Africa, BLUETTI, a global leader in clean energy solutions, has reinforced its partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). This collaboration aims to accelerate the availability of renewable energy, particularly in underserved urban and peri-urban communities. The initiative builds on the existing 'Lighting An African Family' (LAAF) project currently in its fourth year in Kenya, benefiting approximately 500 families and over 2,000 residents in these areas.

The LAAF initiative is designed specifically to aid households that are often led by women, who are disproportionately affected by energy poverty. Through this partnership, BLUETTI contributes to the community by offering renewable energy support and educational training in clean energy technologies. The recent involvement of BLUETTI at the 2025 Devolution Conference, a key political forum in Kenya, underscored the importance of affordable clean energy solutions that promote urban resilience and sustainable housing.

During the conference, both BLUETTI and UN-Habitat emphasized the necessity of clean energy in fostering a sustainable future for all. They believe that energy solutions play a pivotal role in not only empowering communities but also addressing the broader challenges posed by climate change.

The focus of the partnership includes engagement in two specific urban zones—Muhoroni, an expanding peri-urban area within Kisumu County, and the informal settlements of EX-Grogon and Mathare in Nairobi. To foster local development, BLUETTI has donated 500 E60 Solar Lighting and Storage kits. This donation translates into direct benefits for over 2,000 residents, demonstrating a tangible commitment to improving energy accessibility.

Over the next five years, their joint effort is projected to reduce carbon emissions by an impressive 337.5 tons, significantly enhancing urban resilience while raising environmental awareness within the communities served.

Mr. Oumar Sylla, Director of the Regional Office for Africa at UN-Habitat, praised this partnership, stating, "Working with BLUETTI brings renewable energy to vulnerable families in Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically benefiting women-led households. This partnership exemplifies how the UN and the private sector can work together effectively."

James Ray, spokesperson for BLUETTI, reiterated their commitment, saying, "We are proud to strengthen our joint efforts with UN-Habitat, embracing the mission and responsibility towards advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through our energy projects."

As a follow-up to the successful launch in Kenya, BLUETTI and UN-Habitat have plans to expand similar initiatives into other African nations, reaffirming their commitment to sustainability and equitable access to energy resources.
