Empowering Young Aspiring Voice Actors: Insights from a Unique Seminar

Addressing Career Uncertainties for Aspiring Voice Actors

On August 5, 2026, Persol Tempstaff, headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, hosted a hybrid seminar titled "The Power to Shape Your Dreams: Meeting Your Unknown Self as an Artist" aimed at supporting young individuals aspiring to become voice actors. With the landscape of voice acting often painted with uncertainty, this seminar sought to illuminate paths to stability and growth in a competitive industry.

The Challenge for Aspiring Voice Actors

Voice acting has emerged as one of the most popular professions among youth. However, a significant challenge lies in the fact that only a handful manage to secure sustainable income while pursuing their passion. Many young aspirants grapple with the intricacies of planning their future and navigating their career paths. The seminar featured prominent individuals in the industry, including Seimi Yamabata, who has vast management experience in voice acting and entertainment production; and Ryo Tatsuta from Persol Holdings, who has supported over 3,000 individuals in career development.

Unique Insights from Industry Experts

The unique format of the seminar allowed for an enriching dialogue between professionals from different fields—voice acting and human resources—exploring shared challenges and insights. Participants had the rare opportunity to engage with two experts who provided distinctive perspectives on building a fulfilling career while pursuing their dreams. Yamabata addressed the realities of the voice acting industry, discussing essential traits for success. She shared anecdotes from her management career that highlighted what it takes to be valued in production settings, providing attendees with indispensable lessons on the recurring themes of talent and adaptability.

Tatsuta, as a career support specialist, emphasized the positive outcomes of parallel social experiences through part-time or contracted work. He encouraged participants to think critically about self-awareness and communication skills, citing how these traits can significantly enhance their artistic expressions. The interaction revealed attendees fervently jotting notes, nodding enthusiastically, indicating their engagement and eagerness to absorb the knowledge being shared.

Participant Engagement and Reflections

Throughout the seminar, about 50 individuals participated in total, with 20 in-person from speaker audiences and voice acting schools, while the rest joined online. The Q&A session sparked various inquiries, including practical concerns like maintaining self-management and the potential benefits of obtaining certifications in case they choose to pivot away from voice acting. This led to vibrant discussions, extending well beyond the allocated time.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. One aspiring voice actor expressed gratitude for the insights on how to proactively confront uncertainties, prompting a desire to embrace broader challenges rather than waiting idly. Others noted the seminar's relevance not just to voice acting but as universal principles applicable to all careers, emphasizing the importance of work attitudes and mindset.

Expert Comments

Yamabata remarked, "Pursuing your dreams and participating in the workforce are not mutually exclusive. The attendees’ commitment to address their dreams amidst employment challenges was truly inspiring. As voice actors are often chosen from a vast talent pool, it’s crucial to embrace opportunities and continuously prepare. Every form of experience, including social interactions, enhances our expressions and creativity. I hope this dialogue fosters the next steps in each participant's journey."

Tatsuta added, "The discussions were deeply enriching, encapsulating important elements needed to broaden one's perspective and skills crucial for future endeavors in voice acting. Engaging in various experiences can significantly improve one’s prospects in this industry. I commend all the aspiring voice actors for taking brave steps toward their dreams."
