Meizu's Global Comeback at MWC 2025: Unveiling AI Ecosystem Flyme Strategy
Meizu's Global Comeback at MWC 2025
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, Meizu made headlines as it announced its ambitious return to the global market. Mr. Gu Binbin, Meizu's Overseas Business Executive Director, engaged in exclusive discussions with various media outlets regarding the company's global strategy, focusing on its innovative AI-driven ecosystem consisting of smartphones, XR (Extended Reality), and smart vehicles.
Meizu has garnered immense popularity in China and beyond in recent years, making its return to the international stage a highly anticipated event. During the interview, Mr. Gu was asked about Meizu's globalization strategy and how the company selects suitable markets for expansion.
"Our globalization strategy is built upon two pillars: market demand and technological innovation," Mr. Gu articulated. Currently, Meizu operates in over 30 countries and regions spanning Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe. Each market presents unique challenges that require tailored solutions, leading Meizu to adopt a strategy of 'Global vision, local execution.' This approach ensures that marketing, research and development, and customer support align with the specific dynamics of each market, serving as the foundation of Meizu's localization strategy.
In the near future, Meizu plans to strengthen its presence in these regions while exploring new opportunities. Mr. Gu highlighted that the currently implemented strategies, including the 'smartphones + XR + smart cars' ecosystem and the 'All in AI' strategy, distinguish Meizu from its competitors. According to Meizu's philosophy, smartphones, AR technology, and smart vehicles represent critical components of the digital future. Although each serves distinct roles, they are interconnected technologically.
At the core of this ecosystem lies the Flyme operating system, powered by AI, which seamlessly connects smartphones, XR glasses, and smart cars. This connectivity enhances the consumer experience by offering a more integrated and intelligent engagement. For instance, individuals can set navigation routes on their mobile devices, which can then sync with XR glasses and car control screens. During meetings, XR glasses can translate dialogue in real-time and sync minutes to mobile phones and computers, while smart cars can autonomously determine the best routes based on users' schedules. This interconnectivity not only boosts consumer productivity but also elevates the usage scenarios and overall product value.
Last year, Meizu officially launched its 'All in AI' strategy, placing artificial intelligence at the forefront of its product development across the entire range. Utilizing AI, the company has established a converged AI ecosystem offering multiple scenarios and smarter functions. For example, AI technology enhances mobile features such as photography, voice assistance, and personalized recommendations. XR glasses open up innovative applications through AI, enabling real-time translation, navigation, and conference assistance. In smart vehicles, the AI-driven Flyme Auto system provides users with a more intelligent driving experience.
Collaboration with Geely Group further accelerates the adoption of Flyme Auto technology and bolsters the industry position. Flyme Auto has become one of the most widely used smart cockpit operating systems in China, with over 500,000 installations across vehicles. By January 2025, the sales volume of smart cars equipped with the Flyme Auto system surpassed 132,000 units, ranking it first in the market. Flyme Auto is also closely integrated with the Geely brand, extending its reach to the global market. Currently, the system is customized for 22 vehicle models, including those from Geely and LYNK & CO, and is being exported to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific, and other regions, providing thousands of consumers with an entirely new connected and intelligent experience.
It is worth noting that Meizu is a smartphone brand under the DreamSmart Group, which facilitates the AI ecosystem in three key areas: smartphones, XR technologies, and smart vehicles. With extensive technological expertise across various sectors, DreamSmart is recognized as a prominent leader in smart ecosystems.
Looking ahead, Meizu remains steadfast in its 'All in AI' strategy and globalization efforts, planning to continue investing in product development and expanding market reach. This commitment aims to bring better, fully integrated ecological products to technology enthusiasts worldwide.
