Osaka Gas and Blue Sky Solar's Latest Solar Power Venture
Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. and Blue Sky Solar Co., Ltd. have announced their plans to develop six new non-FIT/non-FIP solar power plants, generating a combined capacity of about 0.8 MW. This initiative marks the fourth collaborative development between the two companies, which began with an agreement in 2021 to pursue continuous development of small to medium-sized solar power facilities.
The development will be executed through a joint venture company known as S&Dx solar3, co-funded by both Osaka Gas and BSS. With this new project, the total number of solar plants developed by the partnership will rise to 31, bringing the total capacity to approximately 26 MW. Blue Sky Solar will oversee the operational management and maintenance of these plants, while Osaka Gas will purchase all generated electricity and its environmental benefits through an off-site corporate PPA model. Construction is set to begin soon, with operational commencement aimed for July 2026.
Osaka Gas is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. As part of its strategy, the company aims to expand its contribution to renewable energy sources, targeting an increase to 5 million kW by 2030. Adding this latest solar project will elevate their renewable energy contribution to approximately 3.74 million kW.
The guiding philosophy of Blue Sky Solar, encapsulated in their corporate slogan, “Illuminating the Future with Renewable Energy,” emphasizes their dedication to promoting renewable solutions for societal benefit. To date, BSS has developed solar power facilities totaling 340,000 kW, has managed safety and maintenance contracts for about 880,000 kW, and has undertaken repowering projects for 150,000 kW.
Continuing their partnership, Osaka Gas and BSS are working towards the widespread adoption of renewable energy and the establishment of a sustainable society. With a focus on collaborative efforts and innovative solutions, their ventures demonstrate an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and energy sustainability.
