Japan Sigmax Hosts Second PO Seminar for Prosthetists and Orthotists

Japan Sigmax Holds Second PO Seminar to Shape Future Healthcare

On May 16, Japan Sigmax Inc., a leading company in the medical, sports, and wellness sectors headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, organized the second PO Seminar targeting prosthetists and orthotists.

The seminar emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration with healthcare professionals to enhance the quality of medical care, moving beyond mere product introductions. The term PO stands for Prosthetist and Orthotist, the key professionals responsible for supporting patients' mobility and quality of life (QOL) through prosthetic legs, arms, and support braces. Japan Sigmax as a medical device manufacturer focuses on addressing challenges faced by these experts by providing essential information and insights.

Background: Providing Valuable Insight for Essential Healthcare Professionals

Prosthetists play a crucial role in the rehabilitation of patients who have lost physical capabilities due to accidents or illnesses. They work closely with patients to ensure a smooth transition back into society through effective use of prosthetic devices. Recognizing their critical function, Japan Sigmax hosted the first seminar in February 2025, garnering positive feedback from participants for its informative discussions on medical trends and opportunities for direct engagement with peers and experts.

The latest seminar was conducted in both Tokyo and Osaka, connected through a web platform in response to requests from professionals beyond the capital city.

Overview of the Second Japan Sigmax PO Seminar

The theme of this seminar was “Understanding and Treatment Choices for Knee Joint Disorders – Approaches Including Orthotic Solutions Through OA and MMPRT.” The program featured several speakers, including:

Program 1: Treatment of Knee OA – From Conservative Care to Surgery

Dr. Ryohei Takeuchi (Deputy Director, Yokohama Sekishinkai Hospital, Head of Joint Surgery Center) explained that knee osteoarthritis (OA) significantly affects people over 40 and is caused by various factors such as genetics and hormonal changes. He emphasized the importance of correcting ankle and knee alignment in treatment and discussed the roles and outcomes associated with orthotic solutions including knee braces and insoles.

Program 2: Integrated Strategies Combining Orthosis and Rehabilitation for Knee OA

Dr. Ryo Nagashima (Head of Rehabilitation, Yokohama Sekishinkai Hospital) focused on the diverse orthotic treatments available for knee OA. He noted the lack of discussion about biomechanical impacts related to these treatments and presented results from gait analyses and real-time feedback devices, predicting a future trend toward data-driven adjustments in rehabilitation settings.

Program 3: Development of Knee Braces at Japan Sigmax

Japan Sigmax's Kaito Hirata, from the Product Planning and Development Division, shared insights into the comprehensive product development process from idea to market. He stressed the importance of mechanical functionality, comfort, usability, and durability, detailing the rigorous assessment protocols that ensure only high-quality products are released to the market.

Program 4: Diagnosis and Treatment of Medial Meniscus Posterior Root Tear (MMPRT)

Dr. Takayuki Komatsu (Chief Surgeon, Okayama Red Cross Hospital) illustrated the significance of the inner and outer menisci in distributing knee joint loads and stabilizing the joint. He emphasized the necessity for early diagnosis and proper treatment choices to prevent deterioration into knee OA.

Seminar Highlights

Over 60 prosthetists and orthotists attended the event, actively participating in discussions and Q&A sessions. Participants engaged directly with product demonstrations and posed questions to company representatives, making this seminar a valuable opportunity for networking and knowledge exchange among professionals from different regions.

Feedback highlighted the educational value of the presentations, with requests for further sessions covering diverse clinical topics. Japan Sigmax intends to uphold its commitment to providing ongoing informative seminars tailored to the needs and challenges faced by prosthetists, thereby enhancing patient care.
