Expansion of European Operations by Mudrick Capital Management

Mudrick Capital Management, a prominent New York-based event-driven investment firm, has made a significant move to strengthen its European operations by appointing Andrew Meares as Managing Director. This strategic appointment, announced on March 31, 2026, is set to enhance the firm's presence in the UK and European investment landscapes from their London office.

Andrew Meares comes to Mudrick with an extensive background of over 25 years in the investment sector. His expertise spans across credit, distressed debt, and special situations, particularly focusing on European markets. Prior to joining Mudrick, Meares held a position as a Director on the European investment team at Taconic Capital Advisors in London. There, he was instrumental in leading initiatives that involved identifying, evaluating, and executing distressed investment opportunities across various capital structures.

Before his tenure at Taconic, Meares was positioned as the Head of Special Situations at Sienna Capital, an alternative asset management arm of Groupe Bruxelles Lambert. His role at Sienna Capital included directing SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Company) investment activities and serving on advisory teams, demonstrating his deep involvement in innovative investment mechanisms.

Previously, Andrew Meares was also a Founding Partner and Portfolio Manager at CapeView Capital/Trafalgar Asset Managers, where he played a key role in the firm's event-driven Recovery Fund. His work in this capacity involved managing investments that included stressed and distressed situations, as well as participating in creditor committee representation across regions like Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the USA.

The appointment of Mr. Meares is not only a reflection of his impressive credentials but also underscores Mudrick Capital’s commitment to expanding its capabilities in the European market, particularly within distressed and event-driven credit sectors. The firm’s London office will now be the central hub for sourcing and executing European investment opportunities led by Meares along with Research Analyst Marti Llena Prats.

"Andrew is the kind of investor we seek at Mudrick Capital—someone with a proven track record and a rigorous approach to credit investment who can navigate complex opportunities in European markets," said Jason Mudrick, the firm’s Founder and Chief Investment Officer. He further highlighted that the current state of the European credit markets presents numerous attractive prospects for investors specializing in event-driven strategies.

Meares, reflecting on his new role, stated, "Mudrick Capital has established itself as one of the most reputable event-driven investment platforms globally. I have immense respect for the disciplined investment approach the firm embodies, complemented by a team of high-caliber professionals. I am excited to join Mudrick at such a pivotal moment as European credit markets continue to evolve, providing us with expanding opportunities for our investors."

Mudrick Capital Management, L.P., founded by Jason Mudrick, specializes in event-driven credit and equity strategies, adept at maneuvering through complex investment opportunities that require meticulous fundamental analysis. The firm operates from both New York and London, looking to harness the elastic dynamics of the European market under Meares’ leadership.

In conclusion, Andrew Meares' appointment as Managing Director at Mudrick Capital is poised to enhance the firm’s investment capabilities in Europe while positioning it to take advantage of the unique opportunities that arise in the distressed and special situations landscape. Mudrick Capital appears well-equipped to navigate the complexities of these markets going forward, promising exciting developments ahead for investors engaging with this distinguished firm.
