National Press Club Invites Entries for the 2025 Journalism Awards
The National Press Club announced it is now open for submissions for its renowned annual journalism awards, celebrating excellence in reporting and storytelling. This year, they are eager to recognize exceptional work produced by journalists throughout 2024. Interested participants can submit entries until May 5, 2025. This initiative allows journalists to showcase their contributions and efforts in an ever-evolving media landscape.
NPC President Emily Wilkins expressed enthusiasm about honoring the remarkable achievements of journalists across the nation, emphasizing the importance of this opportunity to recognize those who strive to inform and engage the public on crucial issues. She noted the awards celebrate journalism that challenges perspectives and helps shape our understanding of current events.
Among the noteworthy updates for the 2025 awards cycle, the Arthur E. Rowse Award for Excellence in Examining the News Media has increased its prize to $1,000. It has also broadened its eligibility criteria to include online, print, and broadcast journalism, highlighting the necessity of critical evaluation of media responsibilities in the modern world.
In addition, this year, the eligibility for the news photography category has been expanded. Photographs submitted to stock agencies and those published for syndication are now acceptable, alongside traditional news media submissions. This adjustment reflects the ongoing changes in journalism, ensuring a more diverse pool of talent is recognized in the competition.
Candidates can vie for cash prizes of up to $1,000 or win a complimentary one-year membership to the National Press Club across various categories. The awards span 15 categories, highlighting excellence in areas such as politics, breaking news, investigative journalism, multimedia applications, and global affairs.
Wilkins stressed the essential function of journalists in preserving democracy, asserting that these awards highlight work that informs and inspires meaningful conversations about significant societal issues. "Each year, we witness the exceptional work journalists present, and we are proud to acknowledge those truly making a difference through their reporting."
Winners will be honored in a grand ceremony during the 52nd Annual National Press Club Journalism Awards Dinner, set for August 27, 2025, at the NPC in Washington, D.C.
Since its founding in 1908, the National Press Club has served as a leading organization for professional journalists. With a membership comprising about 3,000 individuals representing nearly all major news outlets, the NPC advocates for press freedom locally and internationally, ensuring the voices of journalists are heard and respected.
This year's submission period invites journalists from various backgrounds and disciplines to showcase their remarkable work, reaffirming the NPC’s commitment to celebrating journalistic excellence and fostering a robust media environment.
