Survey Reveals 70% Fear Inheritance Process; Seeking Expert Guidance

Survey Overview on Property Inheritance Anxiety

A recent survey conducted by Chuo Property, led by President Masahiro Matsubara and based in Marunouchi, Tokyo, explored the feelings of individuals aged 40 to 70 concerning property inheritance. The study included responses from 240 participants who are either expecting to inherit real estate or have already done so. The findings highlight considerable anxiety surrounding the inheritance process, particularly regarding the steps involved and the financial implications.

Key Findings

High Potential for Being Involved in Inheritance

Shockingly, 51.67% of respondents indicated they either have experience with inheritance, are expecting it in the near future, or believe it may happen eventually. This underscores the fact that inheritance is a pressing concern that many individuals in this age group may face.

Negative Perceptions of Inherited Property

Instead of viewing inherited property as an asset, respondents overwhelmingly associate it with burdens. A staggering 70.42% expressed that they perceive the process as complicated, while 49.17% are concerned about the significant tax implications. In contrast, only 15.83% view inherited real estate positively as something that can be utilized as an asset. This negative mindset about property inheritance suggests that the industry has a pressing need to address the psychological burden felt by potential heirs.

Reliance on Online Information

When it comes to gathering information about inheritance, many depend heavily on online resources and social media, with 62.92% choosing these platforms over direct consultations with professionals like tax accountants or attorneys, which only accounted for 22.5%. This indicates a serious disconnect; many individuals seek to resolve complex inheritance issues by relying on general online information rather than professional advice, which is essential for navigating such complicated matters.

The Paradox of Consultation Hesitation

Interestingly, nearly 40% (39.17%) of those surveyed expressed uncertainty about whether they would consult a professional for advice about inheritance. This finding raises questions about the hurdles individuals face when considering expert guidance. Many seem to be unsure or hesitant, struggling with thoughts such as “I’m not sure who to speak to” or “Consultation costs seem high.” This phenomenon of being
