Debra Porada Joins Ontario International Airport Authority as New Commissioner

In a significant move for local governance, Debra Porada has officially been appointed to the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) Board of Commissioners. This appointment marks another chapter in Porada's extensive career in public service, where she will contribute her insight and experience to one of Southern California's key transportation hubs. The Ontario City Council took this pivotal decision on August 20, 2026, following the resignation of Alan D. Wapner, allowing Porada to step in and fill the critical position.

For over a decade, Debra Porada has been a dedicated member of the Ontario City Council, having served since 2008. In this role, she represents the city's 1st District and is recognized for her commitment to economic development, job creation, and community safety. Her extensive background has established her as a prominent figure within the community, and her recent re-election in 2024 further solidifies her connection with the constituents she serves.

Reflecting on her new role, Porada expressed excitement, stating, ‘Ontario International Airport is one of our region's greatest assets, and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Airport Authority Board.’ She emphasized the airport’s pivotal role in fostering economic growth and enhancing the travel experience for businesses and families alike. The airport's performance under local management has been marked by significant progress, including expanded job opportunities and increased passenger traffic.

Beyond her responsibilities with the OIAA, Porada remains active in various capacities. Her leadership extends to the Water Facilities Authority Board and the Inland Empire Utilities Agency's regional Policy Committee. In addition, she has made her mark as past president of the California League of Cities, Inland Empire Division. Her prior roles include her work as an elected official on the Ontario-Montclair School Board and an appointed member of the Ontario Planning Commission.

Porada’s community involvement extends into numerous sectors. Her tenure on the Ontario Community Block Grant Committee, her service as a San Bernardino County Museum Commissioner, and her participation on the Measure ‘T’ Oversight Committee for the Ontario-Montclair School District are testaments to her commitment to civic engagement. She also founded the Ontario's Kids Come First Clinic and has dedicated her time to community organizations, such as the Ontario Kiwanis and the Ontario Heritage Society.

Armed with over 39 years of experience as a registered nurse, Porada has an academic foundation in science from Citrus College and a bachelor's degree in nursing from California State University, Los Angeles. Her contributions have not gone unrecognized; she has received several local awards, one of which is the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Leadership Award.

As Porada joins the airport authority tasked with overseeing the Ontario International Airport, she does so as the airport approaches a decade of local governance. Since its transition back from Los Angeles World Airports in 2016, ONT has seen considerable growth in passenger numbers and service routes, positioning itself as a vital asset for regional travel. ONT is not just a gateway; it serves as the second most popular mid-sized airport in the U.S., accommodating over 7 million passengers annually and facilitating non-stop flights to numerous destinations, including major cities in the U.S., Mexico, and Central America.

Under Porada's leadership, the Ontario International Airport seeks to enhance its services further and strengthen its role in the local economy, ensuring that it continues to thrive as an integral part of the community for future generations. As the airport continues its strategic growth path, her insights and experience will undoubtedly play a crucial role in its ongoing success.
