Education Foundation of Alachua County Receives Grant to Boost Scholarships and Teacher Awards
The Education Foundation of Alachua County recently received a significant boost in its mission to support local students and educators with a $10,000 grant from the First Federal Foundation. This funding will facilitate the creation of new scholarships for high school seniors, as well as provide recognition for outstanding teachers through the upcoming Teacher of the Year event hosted by the Foundation.
Specifically, the grant will allow for the addition of four new scholarships aimed at assisting students in their pursuit of higher education. For context, The Education Foundation has been a pillar in the community since its establishment in 1986, having awarded more than $12.5 million in scholarships over the years. Tia Brock-Paul, the Executive Director of the Foundation, emphasizes the importance of this program, noting that a single scholarship application opens the door to over eighty additional scholarship opportunities funded by local businesses and organizations dedicated to fostering educational success.
Alana Seals, a current recipient reflecting on the benefits of such a scholarship, stated, "This award will allow me the opportunity to gain knowledge that will help me grow as a student and future business owner in our community. Having access to these funds will allow me to focus on the other aspects of my education without worrying about how to pay for it." This sentiment encapsulates the transformative impact scholarships have on students' lives, enabling them to access higher education with reduced financial burden.
The application process for the First Federal Scholarships, along with other awards from The Education Foundation, is set to open on December 17, 2025, at their official website, edfoundationac.org. Families and businesses interested in contributing to scholarship opportunities are encouraged to reach out to The Education Foundation for discussion on how to create specific scholarships.
In addition to bolstering individual student scholarships, the First Federal Foundation is also an integral sponsor of the 34th Annual Robert W. Hughes Teacher of the Year Program. This event celebrates exemplary teachers throughout the county, showcasing the commendable and often challenging work educators perform daily. Brock-Paul expressed immense gratitude for First Federal's involvement, stating, "We are incredibly grateful for First Federal helping us to elevate the teaching profession by joining us here in Alachua as a new sponsor of this event." Other sponsors include Cox, Florida Credit Union, and SWI Photographers, highlighting a collaborative community effort in supporting education.
The Teacher of the Year event, scheduled for January 22, 2026, will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, drawing an estimated 400 attendees to honor forty dedicated teachers from Alachua County Public Schools. Sponsorship opportunities for local businesses remain open through The Education Foundation, further inviting community involvement in educational enrichment.
Overall, the recent grant awarded to The Education Foundation of Alachua County stands as a testament to the community's commitment to fostering educational success and recognizing the contributions of its educators. Through various programs and opportunities, the foundation continues to play a crucial role in shaping the futures of students and the educational landscape in the area.
