ICANN Leadership Update: New Tenures for Tripti Sinha and Sajid Rahman
On October 30, 2025, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) proudly announced that
Tripti Sinha has been re-elected as Chair of the Board of Directors, and
Sajid Rahman has been appointed as Vice Chair. This significant change in leadership was unveiled during the annual general meeting, ICANN84, held in Dublin, Ireland, from October 25 to 30, 2025.
Tripti Sinha’s Re-election
Tripti Sinha has been a member of the ICANN Board since 2018, and this marks her fourth term as Chair. With over 30 years of experience in internet infrastructure, research networks, and global coordination, Sinha currently serves as the President and CEO of
Internet2, a renowned nonprofit organization leading in advanced technologies. Before this role, she held the position of Associate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at the University of Maryland, managing Advanced Cyber Infrastructure and Global Internet Services.
Sinha expressed her gratitude, stating, “It is an honor to continue my mandate alongside such a talented and geographically diverse Board. This year marks a significant milestone for ICANN; we will deploy our new strategic plan and reinforce our role in the ever-evolving landscape of internet governance.” She emphasized the critical objectives ahead, focusing on ensuring the security and stability of unique internet identifiers, preparing for the next round of generic top-level domain applications, and enhancing collaboration within the global community.
Sajid Rahman’s Appointment
Sajid Rahman, who joined the ICANN Board in 2022, is currently the Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee. He is a recognized leader in the business and technology sectors, with a portfolio that encompasses digital services, emerging markets, and governance. Rahman is now a managing partner at an investment fund focused on advanced technology and renewable energy infrastructures. His previous experience includes serving as the CEO of
Standard Chartered Bank and founding
Telenor Health, a global digital health company.
Rahman commented on the Board's commitment to diversity and collaboration: “The ICANN Board embodies the shared vision and diversity that energizes the global internet community. As we face unprecedented technological and social changes, I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance ICANN’s mission and strengthen our engagement worldwide.”
New Board Members
In addition, ICANN welcomes three new members to its Board:
Constance Bommelaer de Leusse and
Raúl Echeberría, both appointed by the ICANN Nomination Committee, along with
Greg DiBiase, designated by the Generic Names Supporting Organization. Their combined expertise in governance, policy, and technical internet operations will further enhance the Board's capacity to promote ICANN's mission of ensuring a safe, stable, and interoperable global internet.
Governance Structure
The terms of the Chair and Vice Chair of the ICANN Board last for one year, while voting members serve for three years. The Board comprises 20 members (16 voting and 4 non-voting liaison representatives), reflecting ICANN's commitment to global representation and technical excellence in internet governance.
