JA Solar's Major Contribution to Sustainable Energy

On January 16, 2025, during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), Masdar announced that JA Solar has been selected as one of the key contributors to the world's largest photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage project. This revolutionary initiative stands as the first gigascale project globally that operates continuously, combining solar PV technology with battery storage. Its goal is to provide unwavering renewable energy supply.

Founded in 2006, Masdar is a leading clean energy company based in the United Arab Emirates and has emerged as a pioneer in the field of renewable energy. The company specializes in developing solar, wind, geothermal, energy storage, and green hydrogen technologies. Established with a mission to achieve net-zero goals, Masdar has invested in over 40 countries, contributing a total capacity of more than 50 GW in projects that underscore a commitment to a sustainable future.

The landmark project situated in Abu Dhabi's pristine environment promises a power generation capacity of 5.2 GW, complemented by a battery storage system reaching 19 GWh. It consists of north and south sites, each contributing 2.6 GW and 9.5 GWh PV capacity respectively. Once fully operational, this project will provide a stable base load power of 1 GW daily, substantially reducing reliance on fossil fuels, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and accelerating the UAE's net-zero strategy for 2050.

This ambitious project not only represents a critical milestone for the commitments made during COP28 but sets a new benchmark for the advancement of renewable energy technologies worldwide. Abdulaziz Alobaidli, the Operations Manager at Masdar, stated, “This record-breaking project marks a significant step toward a clean energy transition as it balances the fluctuations of renewable energies, allowing for continuous clean energy provision around the clock.
