Connecting Children's Dreams Through the YouTube Project 'Six Degrees of Connection'
The general incorporated foundation, Yumeiku, based in Tokyo, Japan, is launching a new initiative aimed at helping children realize their dreams through meaningful connections. Dubbed 'Six Degrees of Connection', this unique project revolves around the concept of 'Six Degrees of Separation', which posits that anyone in the world can be connected through just six degrees of acquaintances.
Understanding 'Six Degrees of Connection'
This initiative is not just another surprise project; it is designed to follow the journey of children as they connect with others, all while documenting the power of human relationships and the changes that arise through these experiences. Participants will share their stories on YouTube, presenting a documentary-style portrayal of these meaningful interactions.
Who Can Participate?
The project is open to children aged 18 and below who may be facing various challenges such as serious illness, residing in child care institutions, or experiencing school refusal. Importantly, applications can be submitted not only by the children themselves but also by parents or facility representatives.
It's okay if the child does not yet have a specific person they wish to meet; the team at Yumeiku will assist them in exploring their desires and connecting with others. This collaborative approach encourages children to think about their aspirations in a supportive environment.
How to Apply
To get involved, interested parties can submit their applications via email to
[email protected]. The application should include the following information:
- - Name of the applicant (child, parent, facility representative, etc.)
- - Name, age, and current situation of the child (e.g. seriously ill, in child care, school refusal)
- - Desired individual to meet, along with the reason and background
- - Name of the facility or school (optional), along with contact information (phone number and email)
The Message Behind 'Six Degrees of Connection'
Yumeiku has dedicated years to working with children who often say things like, 'I have no dreams.' By engaging with them in person, they often express a desire to meet certain individuals or to try specific activities. The essence of 'Six Degrees of Connection' is to convey that dreams are not reserved for a select few but can be pursued through meaningful connections with others.
Children need caring adults who genuinely value their dreams and offer them experiences of success, no matter how small. Most importantly, it’s vital for these children to feel that there are adults willing to advocate for them. This experience of having someone truly listen to their dreams can empower children to take their next steps toward achieving those dreams. The 'Six Degrees of Connection' project aims to facilitate this empowering experience, encouraging viewers who witness these dream realizations to challenge themselves in pursuit of their own ambitions.
