Strategic Partnership Between Oceanic Constellations and NYK Logistics Marks a New Era in Unmanned Surface Vehicle Development

NYK Logistics Partners with Oceanic Constellations for USV Development

In a groundbreaking move for both companies, NYK Logistics has entered into a strategic partnership with Oceanic Constellations (OC), a company specializing in the development of unmanned surface vehicles (USV). This collaboration aims to enhance the production and operational capacity of OC’s innovative USVs, which are expected to play a crucial role in marine safety, disaster prevention, and communication.

The partnership is built around OC's ambitious program known as the “Ocean Satellite Constellation®,” which seeks to deploy a multitude of USVs across marine territories. By setting up a network of sensors and communication systems, OC's initiative is designed to facilitate extensive marine surveillance and data retrieval. As society increasingly recognizes the importance of environmental monitoring and disaster response, these unmanned vehicles are being positioned as a next-generation maritime infrastructure.

NYK Logistics will support OC as it transitions from the validation phase of its operations to broader commercial applications. This means developing supply chain structures that include inventory management, warehouse operations, and the implementation of a warehouse management system specifically for USV components.

Furthermore, both companies will work together on establishing an international logistics framework to expedite the global rollout of these USVs. Amidst growing geopolitical risks and the need for resilient supply chains, NYK Logistics is strategically focusing on the maritime industry, positioning it as one of its core business areas starting from fiscal 2026. The company has initiated a working group dedicated to enhancing solutions for the transportation of parts and vessels associated with shipbuilding and repair.

Takuma Honda, CEO of OC, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with NYK Logistics, which boasts an extensive global logistics network. Designing a robust logistics solution is a top priority to realize our vision of the Ocean Satellite Constellation. By collaborating with a leading player in the deep tech space, we aim to accelerate the creation of a new market for USV constellations.”

Echoing this sentiment, Hideyuki Hara highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “Supporting OC’s ambitious goal of building next-generation ocean infrastructure is immensely rewarding. Our expertise and global reach will contribute to OC’s international expansion, ensuring they have access to high-quality and effective logistics solutions to facilitate their growth.”

With this partnership, NYK Logistics strengthens its position as a vital logistics partner, using its expertise in marine and air freight, contract logistics, and supply chain solutions to drive the expansion and success of OC’s unmanned surface vehicles.

This strategic alignment between NYK Logistics and OC heralds a new chapter in maritime technology, paving the way for enhanced capabilities in maritime data collection and proactive security measures, essential for navigating the complexities of modern marine operations.

As both companies advance their objectives, the shipping and maritime sectors eagerly await the rollout of these USVs, which promise to dramatically transform how we monitor and manage our oceans.
