Event Overview

The GRANVISTA Candle Night 2026, titled "Washi Lights and the Summer Coolness", will be held on July 4, 2026, from 3 PM to 10 PM at the Intergate Lounge, Hotel Intergate Tokyo Kyobashi. This event is part of GRANVISTA Hotel & Resort's ongoing initiative called "Shaping the Global Future", aimed at creating shared value in our communities and the environment.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Since 2014, GRANVISTA has embraced the spirit of Cool Earth Day, engaging in sustainable activities for a better future. The event will feature the soft illumination of mini washi lights, crafted from environmentally friendly washi paper, which has a rich history in Japan. Guests can relax and enjoy the soothing ambiance created by these lights while indulging in our lounge services, reflecting on the importance of sustainable living and environmental protection.

Engaging Workshops for Everyone

From 3 PM to 6 PM, attendees can participate in three exciting washi paper workshops, open to all, regardless of age. Attendees will have the chance to create their own mini washi lights, offering a delightful memento to cherish at home. Moreover, we will introduce techniques for making traditional hand-dyed fans and wind chimes using unique washi-folding methods, which were popularized during our successful workshops in September 2025.

Workshop Details

1. Mini Washi Light Creation (First 20 guests)
- Participants will make their own mini washi lights to take home. You will choose your favorite washi paper and assemble it into a candle holder with an LED light.
- Cost: 1,500 yen (tax included) | Duration: Approx. 15 minutes

2. Washi Dyeing Craft Experience (Fans and Wind Chimes) (First 5 guests)
- Using the folding dye technique, participants will dye handmade washi paper to create unique fans or wind chimes.
- Cost: 2,000 yen (tax included) | Duration: Approx. 60 minutes

Note: All workshop fees cover materials, instructor fees, and service fees. Supplies are limited, and there may be delays in participation based on the day’s circumstances.

The Essence of Washi

The experience will be enriched with collaboration from Tsumugu Washi, represented by Naoko Iwasaka. Her mission is to make washi accessible to everyone. With over 17 years of experience in education, Naoko shares the beauty of washi and crafting, stressing the importance of connection among people, nature, and culture.

Initiated in 2008 during the Lake Toya Summit, Cool Earth Day encourages practical action for a low-carbon society by promoting energy conservation through voluntary power outages.
