STG Logistics' Green Haul Program: A Sustainability Milestone



In a remarkable achievement, STG Logistics has successfully reduced more than 2,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions in its first full year of operations for the Green Haul program. This initiative, launched in 2024, was a direct response to growing customer demand for environmentally sustainable and efficient transportation solutions. A 53-foot intermodal container, whether loaded or empty, carries a significant weight—roughly 9,000 to 10,000 pounds even when not transporting goods. Traditionally, these containers must be repositioned back to their origin after delivery, leading to considerable fuel waste and emissions. Green Haul disrupts this outdated cycle by intelligently matching freight movements with existing return trips within STG's network. This synchronization reduces empty travel distances, allowing for more efficient operations.

The emissions reductions are measured against traditional transport methods that encompass a complete round trip, including a fully empty return. In contrast, Green Haul methods minimize these empty miles, thereby yielding a conservative and realistic estimate of the environmental benefits achieved under actual operating conditions.

Real-World Environmental Impact



The success of the Green Haul program translates into meaningful environmental benefits, illustrated by:

  • - Savings of approximately 220,000 to 230,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
