Mars and Unreasonable Group Announce New Ventures for Sustainable Food Innovation

Mars and Unreasonable Group Welcome New Ventures for a Sustainable Future

In a groundbreaking announcement, Mars and Unreasonable Group have unveiled the thirteen new ventures joining the 2026 cohort of Unreasonable Food™, a significant initiative aimed at transforming the food system for better sustainability and nutrition. Founded in 2024, the Unreasonable Food program has quickly established itself as a leader in supporting growth-stage entrepreneurs dedicated to redefining how food is produced and distributed globally.

The goal of this initiative is clear: to create a food system that not only nourishes people but also safeguards the planet. By investing in innovative solutions, Mars and Unreasonable Group hope to redefine food production, with an emphasis on nutrition, ingredient innovation, and environmental sustainability.

Among the recent successes of the previous cohorts, their impact signals the potential of the program. The first group alone reported substantial achievements, including an additional $200 million in revenue, savings of approximately 310 million liters of water, and a remarkable 140,000 tons of CO₂ emissions avoided. These entrepreneurs reached an impressive 24 million people, providing access to safe and nutritious food while enhancing community education on climate change mitigation strategies. The positive outcomes continue to grow, demonstrating the meaningful changes that can occur when innovative thinkers are supported.

Amanda Davies, Mars Snacking's Chief RD, Commercial, and Sustainability Officer, expressed optimism about the new cohort, stating that the innovative approaches presented this year are pivotal for advancing key areas such as nutrition safety, ingredient sourcing, and supply chain resilience. She emphasized that their commitment to creating a better planet starts with revolutionizing the entire food supply chain, from soil to snack.

The thirteen selected ventures demonstrate a diverse range of innovative ideas, each addressing critical elements of the food system. Here is a closer look at a few standout initiatives from the 2026 cohort:

1. Superbrewed Food

This venture creates postbiotic ingredients derived from whole microbial cells, aiming to enhance digestive health and provide protein comparable to dairy options for both humans and pets.

2. Kuli Kuli

Focusing on cultivating potent superfoods like moringa, this venture partners with small local communities to produce and distribute nutritional products across 11,000 retail locations in the U.S.

3. FoodHealth

This platform evaluates food items on a scale from 1 to 100 based on their nutrient density and ingredient quality, promoting informed choices for consumers and retailers alike.

Across various domains such as gut health, nutrition innovation, protein enhancement, and food safety, these new ventures present scalable solutions designed to tackle the core challenges today’s food systems face. Each entrepreneur brings a unique perspective and set of skills, forming part of a broader movement towards redefining the future of food.

As the cohort gathers in Windham, New York, from September 12 to 18, they join a supportive network alongside previous cohorts, Mars teams, Unreasonable mentors, and global investors. This collaboration ensures that they have the resources and guidance needed to propel their enterprises forward, fostering innovation that aligns with the dual priorities of transforming food supply chains and shaping a healthier future.

Daniel Epstein, CEO of Unreasonable Group, remarked on the significance of these entrepreneurs, highlighting that their innovative solutions can serve as essential levers for creating a more resilient future in food. The work demonstrated by these trailblazers illustrates the power of collaboration in driving systemic change in the food industry.

As Mars continues to evolve its strategy around sustainable practices, initiatives like Unreasonable Food™ serve as a beacon of hope for an equitable and nutritious food future. For more information about the 2026 cohort and their groundbreaking work, visit the Unreasonable Food website.
