Celebrating Young Chefs at the 2025 Machida City Breakfast Recipe Contest

The contest theme, 'A Breakfast Recipe That Energizes Your Day', encouraged 6th graders and middle school students to create recipes utilizing locally grown vegetables from Machida City. This year saw an impressive 1,069 submissions from elementary schools and 2,848 from middle schools. From these, a final review culminated in selecting 107 recipes for the last stage, featuring 60 from elementary schools and 47 from middle schools.
Notably, this year's contest introduced the 'Perfect for School Lunch Award', recognizing creativity suitable for school menus. The distinguished submissions totaled 10 per category, leading to further recognition through awards such as Best Award, JA Machida City Award, and additional prizes aimed at stimulating interest in local produce and nutritious meals.
To make the most of the awarded recipes, Machida City plans to publish a booklet featuring the winning recipes and promote them on the cooking recipe platform, Cookpad. Additionally, recipes recognized under the 'Perfect for School Lunch Award' will be integrated into school meal menus, enhancing nutritional education in schools. The city will also host a recipe exhibition at the city hall's first-floor event studio from February 16 to 27, allowing locals to explore these creative culinary ideas.
