On June 4, 2025, Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd., headed by President Keita Kato, was recognized by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for its outstanding efforts in multifaceted rule-making activities. This recognition comes as part of METI’s initiative to promote businesses engaged in market creation through social issue resolution and rule formation.
The Ministry defines 'market formation power' as the ability to create new markets through the combination of social issue solutions and rule-making activities. In 2021, METI developed a 'Market Formation Power Index' to visualize this concept and conducted a survey assessing awareness of corporate activities aimed at addressing social issues. The survey's findings revealed that companies actively engaged in complex rule-making activities tend to see favorable effects on their management indicators. As a result, METI improved its evaluation process for 2024 by incorporating an overall score to assess companies' multifaceted rule-making efforts.
The survey, titled 'Survey on Corporate Activities Addressing Social Issues', was conducted from January 10, 2024, to February 14, 2025, targeting 10,000 companies, including both listed companies and non-listed companies with over 50 employees. Of the 1,418 respondents, 594 were listed companies. The results, announced on May 29, 2025, highlighted eight companies, including Sekisui Chemical, that excelled in their rule-making activities and achieved high overall scores.
This recognition reinforces Sekisui's commitment to innovative solutions and its proactive approach towards sustainable development. The company aims to leverage its rule-formation market development initiatives to promote standardization globally and enhance the understanding of the Market Formation Power Index.
In a previous press release dated April 18, 2024, Sekisui was also acknowledged as a participant in METI's initiatives aimed at fostering rule-making for market creation. For further details, you can visit the METI website:
