Worcester, Massachusetts - Assumption University has announced the reappointment of Dr. Greg Weiner as president, set for a new five-year term through May 2030. This decision by the Board of Trustees underscores their trust in his leadership and the significant vision he has for the university—one that is starting to yield tangible results.

Chair of the Board, Candace A. McGovern Race '78, expressed the board’s confidence in President Weiner’s ability to guide Assumption into its next phase of growth. “President Weiner's leadership has been instrumental in setting Assumption University on a path of continued success,” she stated, highlighting his dedication to students and his strategic efforts to enhance the university’s Catholic liberal education.

Dr. Weiner’s approach focuses on supporting students so they can thrive both academically and in values such as citizenship and communal responsibility. Renowned nationally as a thought leader on Catholic liberal education, he has strengthened the university's foundation while promoting its mission. As a widely published scholar with four books and numerous articles to his name, his contributions to political and constitutional thought have earned him significant recognition in academic circles.

“I am deeply honored by the Board’s trust and support,” Dr. Weiner reflected upon his reappointment. He emphasized the collective accomplishments of the university, stating, “Anything we accomplish at Assumption, we accomplish together as a community—from our Trustees to our faculty and staff to our students.” He also commented on the distinctive nature of Assumption's education approach, which integrates professional skills with fundamental questions of existence.

Under Dr. Weiner's leadership, Assumption has made impressive advancements. Notable achievements include significant enrolment increases, with first-year student numbers rising by 32%, alongside initiatives like the Foundations program tailored for new students and the establishment of Assumption's Center for Civic Friendship. Notably, the university also secured provisional accreditation for its Physician Assistant program.
