Celebrating Deep Tech Startup Opportunities with Start Class and TeSH Collaboration

Empowering Deep Tech Startups: A Collaborative Initiative by Start Class and TeSH

On November 28, 2025, Start Class, a Tokyo-based startup support company, organized a groundbreaking matching event in Tokyo's Yaesu district. This event brought together notable researchers from the Hokuriku region, as part of the TeSH (Tech Startup Hokuriku) initiative, and management talent from the metropolitan area, specifically targeting potential CXOs for tech startups.

Addressing the Management Talent Shortage in Japan's Deep Tech Sector

Japan is home to numerous universities that harbor pioneering research opportunities capable of transforming the world. However, the process of transitioning this knowledge into practical applications, such as startups and businesses, is significantly hindered, mainly due to a lack of management talent skilled in converting tech into business, particularly in regional universities. This shortage has crystallized the urgent need for platforms that connect driven entrepreneurs and professionals in management roles to facilitate the nurturing of deep tech ventures.

By utilizing their unique network, Start Class succeeded in bridging the gap between high-quality research and competent management professionals. While many harbor aspirations to expedite university-originating ventures, gathering individuals qualified to oversee and lead businesses is no small feat. This was evident in the assembly of approximately 20 exceptional candidates who passed stringent selection processes to engage with five carefully chosen researchers from the TeSH project.

The Event Overview

  • - Date: November 28, 2025
  • - Location: Tokyo Midtown Yaesu Innovation Field
  • - Participants: Researchers from Hokuriku's deep tech sector and management candidates from the Tokyo area

The day kicked off with researchers showcasing their innovations through pitches, followed by personalized networking with management talent. Discussions escalated rapidly as attendees debated how to turn innovative technologies into viable business models. Each interaction hinted at the potential emergence of the next big unicorn startups in Japan's deep tech sector.

Insights from Participants

The feedback from participants reflected a positive outlook on the event's organization and the quality of interactions.
  • - Researchers expressed immense satisfaction in meeting various management professionals, many wishing for a continuation of conversations due to time constraints.
  • - Management candidates echoed similar sentiments, noting that a weekend event might have allowed for deeper discussions while emphasizing the importance of understanding the demands for managerial roles in deep tech startups.

One attendee remarked on the balance of serious discussions and casual interactions, which fostered familiarity and relationships among participants.

As a reaction from the broader community attending was favorable, university representatives and local government personnel also voiced enthusiasm about the need for ongoing events promoting collaboration between research and business sectors.
