Can-Am Encourages Riders to Embrace Safety for National OHV Safety Week

Can-Am's Commitment to Safety During National OHV Safety Week

As the summer season unfolds, excitement fills the air for outdoor enthusiasts. This is also the time when we focus on the importance of safety while enjoying off-road adventures. Can-Am, a renowned name under BRP Inc., takes this occasion to remind all riders about the significance of safety and responsible riding as National OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) Safety Week draws near.

With the aim to empower off-roaders, Can-Am emphasizes that safe riding isn't merely a guideline—it is an integral part of the off-roading experience. This initiative is part of their larger Responsible Rider Program, aimed at ensuring that the joy of riding can be preserved for future generations. As stated by Jérémi Doyon-Roch, Can-Am’s Global Marketing Director, responsible riding is central to maintaining the freedom of enjoying outdoor spaces.

Moreover, Can-Am believes that responsible riding extends beyond adhering to rules. It is about protecting access to trails, minimizing conflicts with fellow outdoor enthusiasts, and preserving our environments for future riders. To advance this cause, Can-Am has partnered with Tread Lightly! to introduce a responsible riding educational series called the Responsible Rider Masterclass 101.

Educational Initiative to Promote Responsible Riding

Launching in February 2025, this masterclass series includes a variety of free online courses designed to impart essential safety and stewardship knowledge to off-roaders. Among these courses are Snow 101, Water 101, and Off-Road 101. Each course emphasizes the critical aspects of safety, rider behavior, and environmental care, equipping participants with the necessary understanding to promote responsible practices during their outdoor adventures. The highlighting feature of the Off-Road 101 course is its engaging delivery by Tread Lightly! staff alongside Can-Am’s ambassadors.

In a proactive move to support conservation, Can-Am has announced that for every completion of the Responsible Rider Masterclass, a donation of $35 will be made to Tread Lightly!, contributing to on-the-ground stewardship projects across North America, as part of their Drive 35 initiative.

Essential Tips for Responsible Riding

In conjunction with this educational push, Can-Am offers several vital tips to aid riders throughout the summer:

1. Gear Up: Always wear essential safety gear including a helmet, gloves, and protective glasses. Don’t forget to buckle up once you’re in your vehicle.
2. Stay on the Trail: Ensure to stick to designated paths. This not only prevents damage to sensitive habitats but also keeps the trail intact.
3. Be Respectful: Maintain a safe distance from others, yield to slower riders, and keep noise levels down, especially near residential regions.
4. Ride Smart: Familiarize yourself with your vehicle and be mindful of your skill level concerning the terrain.
5. Stay Sober: Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs is dangerous—stay alert!
6. Pack Out What You Pack In: Leave no trace; carry a trash bag and ensure to clean up after your ride.

In the spirit of fostering a culture of safety, Can-Am encourages all riders, regardless of their brand, to participate in the Responsible Rider Masterclass to ensure that this summer season is not only enjoyable but safe and responsible.
