AKSM/Oncology Partners with RaySearch for Cutting-Edge Cancer Center

In an exciting development for cancer treatment on the West Coast, AKSM/Oncology has chosen RaySearch Laboratories' RayCare® and RayStation® systems for their newly established Advanced Radiation Therapeutics (ART) center. Scheduled to open in March 2026, this facility will be located in San Luis Obispo, California, and aims to provide a comprehensive suite of radiation therapy options for patients in the region.

This strategic partnership between AKSM/Oncology and RaySearch builds upon the success of more than 20 freestanding radiotherapy centers previously established across the United States. The ART center represents a significant step forward in advanced cancer treatment, utilizing the latest in radiation therapy technology, including Varian TrueBeam** linear accelerators, which are renowned for their precision and efficiency.

RayCare 2024A, the oncology information system selected for this project, has received clearance for use in the U.S. and is designed for seamless interoperability with all Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators. Its advanced capabilities promise to streamline workflows from treatment prescription to delivery, significantly enhancing clinical efficiency. Additionally, RayCare's deep integration with RayStation offers a robust treatment planning solution tailored specifically for the ART facility. This integration minimizes manual processes, thus improving overall safety for both patients and healthcare professionals.

Scott Neal, President of AKSM/Oncology, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We are pleased to collaborate with RaySearch to equip our new state-of-the-art Radiation Therapy Center. With their innovative solutions, we can enhance patient care and outcomes."

Similarly, Johan Löf, the founder and CEO of RaySearch, shared his excitement, noting that the integration of RayCare and RayStation with TrueBeam would optimize patient treatment efficiency. He believes that this collaboration will lead to improved patient care outcomes in a field that continuously evolves towards more effective treatment methods.

The introduction of these advanced systems comes at a critical time as healthcare providers increasingly strive to enhance interoperability and efficiency in cancer treatment. RayStation's sophisticated treatment planning technology enables various treatment modalities, including 3D planning, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), and electron beam radiation therapy. Such a diverse array of options positions the ART center as a leader in the oncology field, prepared to meet the complex needs of cancer patients.

With the order confirmed in the second quarter of 2025, and revenue projections set to unfold over the following eight months, the ART team is dedicated to delivering top-tier radiation therapy services. The expertise gleaned from years of partnership in oncology, coupled with the advanced systems from RaySearch, holds great promise for transforming cancer care in California.

This initiative underscores a growing recognition of the essential role technology plays in modern healthcare. By investing in cutting-edge solutions, AKSM/Oncology aims not only to provide immediate benefits to cancer patients but also to contribute to broader advancements in treatment methodologies that could influence cancer care on a national and even global scale.

As the March 2026 opening date approaches, both AKSM/Oncology and RaySearch are poised to set new standards in oncological treatment, emphasizing their commitment to innovation and patient-centered care. The ART center is not just a vision for the future of cancer treatment; it is a reality in the making, promising hope and enhanced options for patients battling cancer.
