(listed on NYSE as MKL), has proudly announced the appointment of Bhavik Desai as its Managing Director for the PFR & Cyber division within the London Market business. Since joining Markel in 2013, Desai has amassed a wealth of experience through various senior underwriting roles, notably as the Head of Professional Indemnity and as a Director handling Professional Indemnity within the Media and Entertainment sectors. Desai’s extensive background in these fields ensures he is well-equipped to lead Markel's initiatives in underwriting discipline and profitability.

Prior to his tenure with Markel, Desai excelled at AIG, where he oversaw the Professional Indemnity business placed in London and managed the Professional Indemnity portfolio for construction in the UK and Ireland. His leadership has been instrumental in developing Markel's Professional Indemnity and Media portfolios by ensuring a systematic approach to underwriting and consistent management of broker engagement and renewals.

As the new Managing Director for PFR & Cyber, Desai aims to refine and optimize portfolio performance while nurturing underwriting talent, thereby enhancing Markel's market share in professional and cyber-related risks. His role will also encompass collaboration across various departments—including underwriting, claims, actuarial sciences, and distribution—to foster insight-driven decision-making and innovative underwriting methodologies.
