Exploring the Unique Furniture Series by Architect Masayuki Kurokawa at HERETHERE

Architect Masayuki Kurokawa has made a remarkable entry into the furniture industry with his new collection under the brand 'HERETHERE'. This inaugural series features two unique designs, 'SIMPLICITY' and 'collage', which will be displayed and available for sale at the AZABUDAI HILLS GALLERY SPACE from October 3 to 5.

Kurokawa's inspiration comes from a profound understanding of spatial relationships. He describes 'SIMPLICITY' as an expression that is carefully crafted, while 'collage' is more casual and spontaneous, highlighting two contrasting yet complementary design philosophies. 'These two concepts, although opposite, share a similar foundation,' he shared. 'They represent different states of existence, akin to ON and OFF, yet they resonate with one another.'

The 'SIMPLICITY' range reflects Kurokawa's belief that their lack of historical context in furniture design offers a fresh perspective. By focusing on creating vertical and horizontal planes, he suggests that the essence of furniture can emerge from these basic geometric forms. 'Only humans appreciate vertical and horizontal alignments,' he remarked, asserting that both architecture and furniture design begin from these basic environmental elements.

On the other hand, the 'collage' sofa exemplifies Kurokawa’s innovative approach to design. This piece is ingeniously structured around the intersections of three-dimensional planes, represented by the X, Y, and Z axes. The horizontal plane (X-axis) serves as the seat, the vertical plane (Y-axis) forms the backrest, and another vertical plane (Z-axis) constructs the arm. The fluidity of this design enables it to hold multiple meanings simultaneously.

Kurokawa emphasizes that his work is not solely about functional design; it encompasses elements of art and playful interaction. 'It embodies a duality,' he states. 'It exists as both design and game, maintaining a sense of ambivalence that vibrantly coexists with different interpretations.'

In his search for an emotional connection within design, Kurokawa seeks to evoke a physiological sense of life through his work. He invites visitors to share their thoughts and reflections, asserting that feedback will help shape and refine his creative journey.
