Comoris Launches 'Ma Earth'
Comoris DAO, located in Shibuya, Tokyo, is excited to announce its selection for the global environmental funding program 'Ma Earth', commencing its crowdfunding campaign on July 1, 2026. The program utilizes the innovative digital community currency 'FoR' (pronounced 'for') to support environmental restoration efforts worldwide.
Understanding Ma Earth
Ma Earth is designed to transform small contributions into significant impacts, acting as a collective crowdfunding platform dedicated to community-driven environmental rehabilitation. Grassroots initiatives across the globe strive to recover land, protect water sources, and maintain ecosystems, facing an estimated annual funding gap of about $1 trillion. This lack of financial support serves as a considerable barrier to their efforts.
To bridge this gap, Ma Earth collaborates with international partners, such as the Hypercerts Foundation, as a non-taxable foundation based in Switzerland. The initiative aims to broaden the flow of funding that connects people with the land, advocating for a shift towards a regenerative economy where prosperity is measured not by the accumulation of wealth, but by the vitality of the land, water, and communities.
Funding Methodology
To support the regenerative communities, Ma Earth employs 'Quadratic Funding', a democratic matching method that places greater value on how many people support a cause rather than the size of the individual contributions. This means that a project gathering support from 20 individuals will receive more matching funds than one that collects the same amount from only four. This methodology empowers smaller donations, emphasizing the collective backing from the community.
In the first two rounds, over $400,000 has been distributed across more than 50 projects, and for the upcoming third round, $500,000 in matching funds is planned for over 100 global projects.
Project Overview: Urban Regeneration
Comoris plans to integrate the regenerative coin 'FoR' into its operations to transform a parking lot into an urban forest that remains open to the community. This project, unique to Japan, is titled 'Fostering More-Than-Human Communities by Digital Tokens' and marks a significant milestone as the first initiative from a Japanese community to be included in the Ma Earth program.
The project site is a vacant lot measuring approximately 200 square meters in Shibuya, which will be repurposed from a simple asphalt parking area into a green infrastructure known as 'rain garden'. This community forest parking area aims to restore soil health and enhance vegetation, thereby improving urban ecosystems.
Through their contributions, participants will earn the digital community currency 'FoR', which can be exchanged for products and experiences connected to mountain forests at planned direct selling locations in the parking area. This creates a novel economic cycle where small contributions to the forest enrich lives and fund further ecological endeavors.
About FoR
FoR is a regenerative digital community currency based on blockchain technology. Its principle is that 'doing good for nature returns benefits to our lives'. A portion of every transaction automatically pools into the 'Collective Wallet', a fund dedicated to forest regeneration. Built on the secure, micro-transaction-friendly Ethereum Layer 2 'Celo', FoR intends to enrich forests through increased usage.
Upcoming Crowdfunding Campaign
Come July 1, 2026, the crowdfunding campaign will be launched on the Ma Earth platform, lasting three weeks. This initiative aims to connect global finance with Japan's green spaces, such as forests and urban greenery. The goal is to overcome the structural financial divides that currently impede initiatives in Japan's ecological restoration efforts.
Individuals can contribute as little as $1, and every dollar raised will be exponentially amplified through the quadratic funding mechanism, morphing into significantly larger resources for regeneration.
Join us as we work to enrich Japan’s green spaces in harmony with the world.
