A Unique Art Exhibition Celebrating Monet's Legacy Unfolds in Tokyo

In 2026, the world will celebrate the centennial of Claude Monet's passing, with various events planned globally, particularly in France. Kicking off this international commemorative program, the Artizon Museum in Tokyo will host a captivating exhibition titled ‘Claude Monet: A Reflection on Landscapes’ starting February 7, 2026. This exhibition promises to delve into Monet's remarkable journey and examine the landscapes that shaped his art.

Held on the 5th and 6th floors of the Artizon Museum, the exhibition features approximately 140 works, including 41 pieces from the renowned Musée d’Orsay, which boasts one of the world’s finest collections of Monet’s art. Visitors will find masterpieces that explore the interplay of natural light and beauty, showcasing Monet's pursuit to capture ephemeral moments on canvas. Not only will attendees witness iconic paintings like ‘Lunch’ from around 1873 and ‘Claude Monet in His Garden at Giverny’ from 1921, but also an immersive video installation by contemporary artist Anju Rechia that pays homage to Monet's legacy.

The exhibition uniquely positions itself within the context of the era's modernization, asking attendees how Monet confronted and artistically expressed the changing landscapes of his time. As Japan's first showcase for several pieces and part of the larger celebration of Monet's contributions to art, this exhibition provokes a universal question: how do we relate to our natural environment today in light of Monet’s vision?

Visitors can purchase tickets through the innovative ‘ART PASS’ service developed by Inventit, a company dedicated to enhancing museum and exhibition ticketing. The service allows for time-specific tickets, rescheduling, multilingual support, and even ticket packages that include merchandise. This flexibility reflects a modern approach to art engagement, merging technology with a passion for cultural preservation.

The exhibition runs from February 7 to May 24, 2026, and the museum’s regular opening hours are from 10 AM to 6 PM. On specific Fridays and Saturdays during this period, extended hours until 8 PM will be available, facilitating greater access to Monet’s vibrant world. The Artizon Museum, founded by the Ishibashi Foundation, champions artistic exchange, and this exhibition epitomizes that mission.

In addition, the museum will take part in joint events with the actual masterpieces from various collections, bolstering the understanding of influences surrounding Monet. Through this multidisciplinary approach involving paintings, photographs, and crafts from the Art Nouveau period, the exhibition seeks to illuminate Monet’s creative process and its historical significance.

Guests are encouraged to explore the many facets of Monet's artistry captured within this extraordinary exhibition. Whether an aficionado of Impressionism or a newcomer eager to learn about the artist’s techniques, this experience promises insights and revelations about nature’s beauty and its interpretation through art. Join us at the Artizon Museum to celebrate Claude Monet’s unparalleled legacy as we reflect on landscapes from his eyes and our own.
