Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships: Free Invitation for Kids

In September 2025, Tokyo will host the prestigious World Athletics Championships, attracting top athletes from around the globe. This year, an exciting initiative has been announced allowing children to witness this grand sporting event for free! Below are the details regarding the invitation process for young spectators.

Application Details

1. Application Period

• - The application will be open from June 6, 2025, at 14:00 until July 7, 2025, at 11:00.

2. Notification of Results

• - Successful applicants will be notified by July 18, 2025.

3. Number of Participants

• - A total of 40,000 spots are available, which includes children and their guardians. For popular sessions, a lottery may be conducted due to high demand.

4. Viewing Methods

• - Individual Viewing with Guardian: Each guardian can take up to 6 children (maximum of 8 participants including guardians). Applications are accepted for all eligible sessions.
• - Group Viewing with Guardians: Groups of children (7 or more, with 2 guardians maximum) can apply for morning sessions only.
• - Children's Only Viewing: Middle school students and above can apply for morning sessions (up to 6 children).

5. Invitation Seats

• - Invited attendees will receive Category B seats and Category B wheelchair seats.

6. Eligible Sessions

• - Nine specific sessions are available for viewing. Note that group and children's only viewings are exclusively designated for morning sessions.

7. Eligibility Criteria

• - Applicants must be residents of Tokyo, aged between 3 and 18 years as of the event dates. Children attending schools within the Tokyo area, including nurseries, kindergartens, primary schools, middle and high schools, and special needs schools, qualify for the potential invite.
• - Note: Only middle school students and older children may apply for children's-only viewing.

8. How to Apply

• - Applications can be submitted through the Sports TOKYO Information portal starting June 6. Please ensure that applications are made by the guardian or an accompanying adult since children cannot apply on their own.
• - Applications via phone or written request are not accepted.

9. Pre-Application Study

• - Before applying, participants are encouraged to study a booklet detailing highlights of the World Championships and sports events to enhance their experience.

10. Ticket Costs

• - For Children: Free
• - For Guardians: 2,025 yen (tax included) per guardian.
• - There are no additional fees related to ticket issuance.

Important Notes for Applicants

• - Transportation and accommodation expenses will be at the applicants' own expense.
