Natural Secures $30M in Series A Funding to Enhance AI Payment Solutions
Natural Raises $30M Series A to Build Payments Infrastructure for AI Agents
Natural, a forward-thinking fintech startup, has successfully secured $30 million in Series A funding, a significant milestone achieved just 193 days after its inception. The funding round was spearheaded by Kirsten Green from Forerunner, along with notable contributions from major investors, bringing Natural's total funding to over $40 million. This rapid growth reflects the increasing investor confidence in the acceleration of AI technologies and their applications in financial transactions.
The company is on a mission to create a robust payments infrastructure tailored specifically for AI agents. The co-founders, Kahlil Lalji, Eric Wang, and Walt Leung, recognize the evolving landscape where AI agents are becoming significant players in the financial ecosystem. Agents, capable of holding and moving funds, accepting payments, and transacting across various currencies, necessitate a financial structure that caters to their unique operational needs.
"The question isn’t if agents will handle money; it’s who will build the infrastructure that ensures these payments are safe, reliable, and easy to use at scale," said Lalji. This vision has propelled the company to innovate and deploy 13 distinct financial products, six of which are currently available for use. These include:
1. Wallets: Offering FDIC-insured accounts designed specifically for agents.
2. Vaults: One-way accounts allowing money to be deposited but not withdrawn.
3. Pay: A service that enables the transfer of funds to agents, businesses, or consumers.
4. Request: A tool for collecting payments from various parties.
5. Transfer: Facilitating fund movement between internal and external accounts.
6. Connect: Enabling the creation of platforms and marketplaces utilizing Natural’s services.
In the upcoming months, Natural plans to unveil additional products such as Voice, allowing agents to manage sensitive payment information via phone, Accept, which transforms agents into merchants, and a range of Cards for easier transactions. By Q4, the company aims to introduce advanced features such as Charge, which will support API-call based billing, Credit lines for agents, and improved billing solutions.
Natural has built its infrastructure quickly, claiming significant direct ownership over its banking and payments systems within a year of its founding. The company proudly maintains a lean yet effective team of 17 talented individuals, with plans for aggressive hiring across all functions.
"We are working with an intense level of urgency because the market is shifting from human-executed payments to agent-executed payments," Lalji added. This shift signifies a broader transformation in how financial transactions are conducted, pushing Natural to stay ahead of the curve.
The rise of AI in finance not only illustrates technological advancement but also highlights the need for specialized frameworks to support these evolving actors. Natural's focus on creating an adaptable and safe payments infrastructure positions it at the forefront of this change, catering to the emerging demand for AI-driven financial solutions. As the company continues to grow, its innovations will likely play a crucial role in shaping the future of payments in an increasingly automated world.
