Power X Unveils Groundbreaking Grid Connector Series
In a significant advancement for the energy sector, Power X, based in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, has launched its new product line called the
Grid Connector Series. This innovative series is designed to streamline the connection between power storage facilities and data centers, significantly improving both efficiency and simplicity. The Grid Connector consolidates essential equipment including power conditioners (PCS), transformers, and high-voltage distribution boards into a single pre-assembled unit, which is shipped directly from the factory. This means that on-site construction mostly revolves around installation and connection tasks, thus facilitating quicker operational readiness of the equipment.
The newly developed PCS utilized in the Grid Connector Series contributes to a considerable reduction in installation costs. Additionally, the series incorporates an optimized system-wide design, enhancing cyber security through integrated control and communication. Power X's commitment to in-house development has also increased compatibility with its proprietary energy storage systems, fostering better installation practices.
The Grid Connector for BESS
As the first model in this series, the
Grid Connector for BESS targets energy storage facilities with a highly efficient solution based on silicon carbide (SiC) power modules. Customers can choose from two models: a 2.5MVA unit equivalent to a 20-foot container and a larger 5MVA unit equivalent to two containers.
This solution boasts high compatibility with the
Mega Power series, which features large-scale energy storage systems. When constructing energy storage solutions with the Mega Power 2500, customers can connect up to eight storage containers with a single
Grid Connector. This design optimizes layout flexibility while reducing the complexity of local system integration, making on-site installation processes more straightforward.
The newly developed PCS is not only more affordable compared to previously sourced models, but it also optimizes the overall system, enhancing efficiency from the ground up. This product is anticipated to enter the prototype testing phase by the end of the year and is set for full-scale production by the third quarter of 2027.
The Grid Connector for DC: Innovative Solutions for AI Data Centers
Expanding upon its technologies used for the BESS, the
Grid Connector for DC is specifically designed for AI data centers, which have seen a rise in power consumption and heat generation. This product aims to provide quick and simple solutions for the establishment and network connection of AI-focused data centers.
The
Grid Connector for DC integrates necessary components into function-specific units essential for megawatt-class GPU data centers, including:
- - Power Unit: Includes PCS and transformers utilizing SiC power modules for efficient power management.
- - Storage Unit: Houses the Mega Power 2500 energy storage system in a compact, 10-foot container.
- - Cooling Unit: Featuring chillers and coolers to supply essential cooling water to data centers.
This integrated approach not only ensures a
Zero-Day Connection—a concept exclusive to Power X that simplifies construction in the field—but also provides redundancy for power and cooling necessities, meeting the reliability demands of modern AI data centers. By centralizing control and communication specifications across each unit, the product also mitigates cybersecurity risks compared to traditional methods of connecting and managing separate units.
The Grid Connector for DC is slated for prototype installation in early 2027, followed by further testing and readiness for mass production.
