The Cabin Company and Goh Uchida Release a Unique Children's Book

A New Perspective on Monsters: The Enthralling 'Senmenjo de Kitchen de'

On July 10, 2025, Blue Sheep Co., based in Kichijoji, Musashino City, Tokyo, will unveil a unique children's book titled 'Senmenjo de Kitchen de'. This delightful creation emerges from the collaborative efforts of poet Goh Uchida and the artistic duo known as The Cabin Company. The book will be available for purchase at bookstores and at the 'Obake?' exhibition venues.

The genesis of this book can be traced back to the 'Obake?' exhibition that began in the summer of 2024 at the PLAY! MUSEUM, which continues to travel across various locations. Uchida's poetry explores the intriguing and unexplained presence of monsters woven into the fabric of everyday life, sparking inspiration for The Cabin Company. As they crafted illustrations for the book, the artists encapsulated children’s identities on 60 panels, interpreting Uchida’s poetic reference to 'you' as 'a black shadow' — which subsequently birthed the story of 'you and I'.

Readers can expect an immersive experience as the book promises a fresh, thrilling take on the theme of monsters. The artwork, characterized by subdued colors, accentuates the underlying unease prevalent in our daily surroundings, created through the skilled hands of The Cabin Company, known for their rich color palettes.

The book’s design, helmed by graphic designer Yui Takada, enriches the illustrated world with a monochrome aesthetic and dynamic typography that captures the depths of the narrative. The interplay of poetry and illustration in this book creates an entirely new genre in children's literature, providing a unique lens through which familiar scenes are reimagined and viewed with renewed curiosity and mystique.

A Dialogue Beyond Words

This collaboration is particularly remarkable as it unfurled without direct communication between Uchida and The Cabin Company, symbolizing a mutual trust and connection that resonates throughout the pages. In an emotional exchange, Uchida expresses his profound appreciation for the way The Cabin Company embraced his poetry, transforming it into a vibrant artistic battle that radiates creativity and joy.

Uchida notes, "To think they truly engaged with my poetry is awe-inspiring! The essence of poetry and its inherent entertainment value have been expressed so beautifully through their artistry, and I am immensely grateful for that. Thank you, The Cabin Company." Conversely, The Cabin Company reflects on their journey of visualization, mentioning how the enchanting, enigmatic, and ephemeral qualities of Uchida's poetry guided their creative process.
