Vitamin Angels Surpasses Global Goals: Impacting Millions in 2024

Vitamin Angels Achieves Global Reach and Impact in 2024

In a remarkable year for public health, Vitamin Angels successfully reached over 74 million underserved pregnant women and children across the globe in 2024. This achievement underscores the organization’s commitment to addressing nutritional deficiencies, particularly among marginalized communities. Domestically, Vitamin Angels met their goal of providing essential prenatal vitamins to 500,000 underserved pregnant women in the United States, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts.

Howard Schiffer, the Founder and President of Vitamin Angels, highlighted the importance of collaboration in this success. He stated, "At the heart of Vitamin Angels' incredible achievements in 2024 was collaboration. From cross-divisional teamwork within the organization to deepening our partnerships with external stakeholders, collaboration has been the driving force behind our greatest wins in 2024 and will continue to fuel our growth and impact in 2025."

Impact Highlights of 2024

  • - Every minute, Vitamin Angels helped one pregnant woman avoid anemia and support a healthy pregnancy.
  • - Every 10 minutes, the organization ensured one baby received the essential nutrition needed for a healthier start.
  • - Every 15 minutes, they saved the life of a child, significantly contributing to brighter futures for families across the world.

Notable Accomplishments

The year saw several partnerships and achievements that amplified the organization’s reach:

  • - Corporate Partnerships: Since 2013, Walgreens has partnered with Vitamin Angels to impact over 450 million women and children by donating 1% of sales from participating vitamin and supplement products. This partnership enabled the expansion of free Prenatal Vitamin Programs across all 50 states in the U.S., including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

  • - Collaborative Initiatives: Vitamin Angels established the “Transforming Lives Through Nutrition” consortium, uniting several nonprofits to combat global malnutrition, supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  • - National Program Launch in Indonesia: In October 2024, Indonesia introduced one of the first national programs supplying multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) to pregnant women, a transition supported by Vitamin Angels through policy guidance and program implementation since 2018.

  • - Lives Saved Tool Adoption: To better assess their impact, Vitamin Angels utilized the Lives Saved Tool (LiST) from Johns Hopkins, which estimates the health outcomes of improved nutrition interventions, including the reduction of maternal and child mortality.

Looking Ahead

As Vitamin Angels moves into 2025, they are intent on expanding their annual reach to 140 million women and children. This goal emphasizes the power of ongoing collaboration with stakeholders and the intensification of programming aimed at delivering effective nutrition solutions.

To celebrate their achievements and outline future plans, Vitamin Angels invites interested parties to attend a special event in Anaheim, California, marking the eve of Natural Products Expo West on March 4, 2025. With free admission, this event promises to engage participants in the essential conversation about nutrition and health.

Founded in 1994, Vitamin Angels remains steadfast in its mission to improve nutrition worldwide, focusing on groups that often slip through healthcare cracks. Partnering with over 1,200 local organizations, they strive to ensure that nutritionally vulnerable women, infants, and young children receive the support they need to thrive. Their high marks from Charity Navigator and Candid for financial transparency confirm their commitment to proper stewardship of resources. For more information, visit Vitamin Angels.
