Nippon Chikudenchi's New Battery Storage Facility
Nippon Chikudenchi Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has announced the commencement of operations for its latest battery storage facility, "NC Hashima Ashichimachi Battery Station," located in Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture. The facility officially began receiving power on October 15, 2025. This state-of-the-art installation plays a crucial role in stabilizing the output fluctuations of renewable energy sources, thereby enhancing the regional energy distribution network.
Facility Overview
The NC Hashima Ashichimachi Battery Station is designed with a rated output capacity of 1,988 kW and a storage capacity of 8,146 kWh. It employs a battery system provided by CATL and is equipped with TMEIC's power conditioning system (PCS). The project's configuration ensures high reliability and performance in energy management, catering to various energy markets including the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX) and other capacity markets.
Addressing Energy Needs
The rise in renewable energy usage has created a pressing need for balancing power supply and demand. Battery storage systems like this facility play a vital role in absorbing fluctuations, ensuring a steady flow of energy to the grid. Construction was managed by Y-Just Co., Ltd., which placed great emphasis on environmental considerations and safety during the project’s development.
Partnership for Disaster Resilience
Nippon Chikudenchi has signed a disaster response agreement with Hashima City, aiming to provide power support during emergencies. As part of this initiative, the company donated 16 portable power supplies (EcoFlow DELTA 2 MAX) to be installed at local evacuation centers. This program exemplifies a successful collaboration between a private entity and municipal government, enhancing the community’s disaster resilience and drawing attention from various regions as a model for local preparedness.
Future Prospects
Nippon Chikudenchi is determined to expand its network of battery storage facilities across Japan. The company aims to bolster collaborations with local communities, municipalities, and businesses, significantly contributing to the nation's transition towards a decarbonized society and improving disaster response capabilities. Plans are in motion to inaugurate 80 battery storage stations by 2026.
