CIEE and Scan Design Foundation Introduce New Internship Focused on Environmental Sustainability
CIEE and Scan Design Foundation Launch Environmental Sustainability Internship in Denmark
The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) alongside the Scan Design Foundation (SDF) is excited to unveil the very first Scan Design Foundation Environmental Sustainability Internship, scheduled for the summer of 2026. This groundbreaking internship program aims to enhance the practical skills and career readiness of American college students while immersing them in the rich context of environmental sustainability in Denmark.
Program Overview
Beginning from May 19 to July 12, 2026, a select group of eight outstanding undergraduate or graduate students will embark on this eight-week journey in Copenhagen. Each intern will benefit from a fellowship that covers the entire cost of the program, including airfare and a living stipend. This financial support ensures that students can focus on their learning experience without the burden of financial constraints.
During their stay, participants will engage with various Danish companies emphasizing eco-friendly business practices. Interns will be strategically placed according to their skills and career aspirations, allowing them to obtain tailored hands-on experiences. Participants will take part in a 6-credit internship seminar that will delve into the nuances of sustainability practices in Denmark. Additionally, they will explore the local culture of sustainability, enriching their understanding through firsthand experiences and interactions.
Networking is a core component of the internship, as students will have opportunities to connect with local sustainability professionals at various start-up hubs. This will be complemented by a series of professional development workshops designed to sharpen their skills in job searching, resume writing, and navigating the complexities of modern employment landscapes.
Internship Opportunities
Internship placements will span across a diverse range of industries, from companies specializing in sustainable cleaning products to organizations dedicated to fostering environmental and social outcomes through innovative strategies. One notable opportunity includes a host company that focuses on the implementation of sustainability strategies within organizations and support towards transitioning to renewable energy solutions, fostering a broader understanding of how sustainability translates into actionable practices.
