Synology Unveils DiskStation Manager 7.3 with Enhanced Security and AI Integration

Synology Introduces DiskStation Manager 7.3

Tokyo, Japan — October 8, 2025 — Synology has officially announced the release of DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.3, which offers significant improvements in storage efficiency, system security, and productivity features. Kenneth Hsu, the Director of Synology’s System Group, emphasizes the necessity of advanced solutions to maximize the value derived from rapidly increasing data volumes, stating, "With DSM 7.3, we aim to empower customers to confidently tackle evolving data management challenges on a secure and reliable AI-adaptive platform."

Enhancements in Storage Efficiency and Security

One of the standout features of DSM 7.3 is Synology Tiering, which automatically moves files between storage tiers based on access patterns. Frequently accessed "hot" data is stored on high-performance media, while less accessed "cold" data is migrated to more cost-effective storage options. This is facilitated by customizable policies that allow users precise control over the timing and method of data migration based on last modification dates or access frequency.

In the past year, security has been a top priority in the development of DSM. Over 50 proactive security updates were issued, and with DSM 7.3, the platform enhances its threat prioritization and protection capabilities by incorporating industry-recognized risk indicators such as KEV, EPSS, and LEV.

Moreover, responding to increasing community demands, the Office Suite has seen substantial upgrades. Synology Drive now features streamlined file requests, enhanced file locking mechanisms, and shared labeling, all aimed at enhancing team collaboration. In addition, MailPlus has improved security via email moderation, while introducing domain-sharing capabilities for unified ID management across distributed infrastructures.

Accelerating AI Adoption While Safeguarding Data Privacy

Since its launch in August 2025, the Synology AI Console has been implemented in over 430,000 Synology systems, enabling seamless AI capabilities within on-premise environments for improved team collaboration and management. DSM 7.3 further enhances this offering with new custom data masking and filtering features, allowing users to protect sensitive information on their premises before transmitting data to third-party AI providers, thus bolstering security and workflow reliability.

Looking ahead, the Synology AI Console is set to be compatible with all OpenAI-compatible APIs in future releases, aiming for seamless integration with private AI infrastructure, which will empower organizations to flexibly deploy AI services without compromising data privacy and security.

Expanding Storage Flexibility

Synology is committed to delivering reliable and high-performance storage systems, emphasizing stringent hardware and software validation in its development process. The Synology storage drives are designed to provide the highest level of reliability in conjunction with third-party validation programs.

The company collaborates with drive manufacturers to expand its certified storage media lineup, offering users more dependable options. With the release of the 2025 models of DiskStation Plus, Value, and J Series, users can now install third-party drives and create storage pools on DSM 7.3¹. Alongside existing third-party drive migration support, DSM effectively offers flexible management over storage deployment.
