TIER IV Autonomous Bus Initiative
TIER IV, a deep-tech company committed to the democratization of autonomous driving, has initiated an autonomous bus service in Tokyo, connecting Shinkiba Station with Um no Mori Park. This innovative project, commissioned by the Tokyo Port Authority, aims to enhance accessibility to the park while facing modern transportation challenges.
Project Overview
The autonomous bus, dubbed
Minibus 2.0, is set to begin operations from
July 1, 2025, until
March 31, 2026 (excluding year-end holidays). The route spans approximately
9.3 kilometers and is expected to feature
five free rides a day. This initiative not only strives to improve access to the newly opened Um no Mori Park, which debuted in March 2025, but also contributes to the
Smart Tokyo vision that leverages digital innovation to enhance city life.
Addressing Urban Transportation Issues
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is actively working on practical solutions for various societal challenges, including enhancing inter-region mobility, supporting individuals with mobility restrictions, and tackling the issue of driver shortages. The introduction of autonomous buses is a significant step forward in realizing these goals, particularly in the Tokyo Bay Area, designated as a pilot region for the
Smart Tokyo initiative.
Through this project, TIER IV will facilitate the development and application of advanced autonomous driving technology. The service seeks to streamline transportation, making visits to Um no Mori Park more accessible for residents and visitors alike.
