On November 13, 2025, Ecopetrol S.A. made headlines by finalizing a vital acquisition that underscores its commitment to renewable energy. The Colombian energy giant concluded a transaction with Statkraft European Wind and Solar Holding AS, acquiring a company that manages Statkraft's portfolio in Colombia along with six special purpose entities that comprise solar projects totaling approximately 0.6 GW. This strategic acquisition is valued at USD 157.5 million, further solidifying Ecopetrol's position in the renewable energy sector.
The fundamentals of this purchase stemmed from an agreement laid out on May 20, 2025, which included a roadmap for purchasing up to ten entities altogether. The current acquisition integrates Ecopetrol fully into the operational structure of these solar companies, thereby enhancing its overall renewable energy portfolio.
