Hyundai and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Team Up to Enhance Child Passenger Safety Efforts

In an effort to bolster child passenger safety, Hyundai Motor America has announced a partnership with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). This collaboration is marked by a significant $50,000 donation from Hyundai to CHOP's Car Seat Safety for Kids program. This initiative aims to provide vital safety education, car seat inspections, and essential resources for families in the region, showcasing Hyundai’s dedication to community welfare through its corporate social responsibility program, Hyundai Hope.

The Importance of Car Seat Safety

Safety experts assert that proper car seat use is crucial for reducing the risk of injury in young children during vehicle travel. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, almost 50% of child safety seats are incorrectly installed or improperly used, which can have dire consequences. Research has shown that using age- and size-appropriate car seats can lower the risk of fatal injuries by an astonishing 71% for infants under one year old and 54% for toddlers aged one to four.

Supporting Families with Essential Resources

The funding from Hyundai supports CHOP's initiatives to educate families on how to use child safety seats correctly. Their program offers personalized guidance and inspections from certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. During special car seat check events, experts inspect seats for factors like expiration dates and manufacturer recalls, while also providing hands-on instruction to parents and caregivers. Furthermore, families in need may receive replacement car seats, ensuring that all children can travel safely.

## A Partnership that Makes an Impact

Since its inception in 2022, Hyundai's contributions have resulted in the distribution of over 21,000 car seats and booster seats to families in need, alongside conducting more than 2,600 safety inspections. The partnership has proven to be instrumental in enhancing awareness surrounding important child passenger safety practices, empowering caregivers with the resources they need to ensure their children’s safety on the road.

Gina Duchossois, injury prevention manager at CHOP, emphasizes the significance of such collaborations: "Child passenger safety is one of the most essential measures families can adopt to protect their children during travel. The support from Hyundai allows us to provide tailored assistance to caregivers, ensuring that more children are safely secured in the appropriate seats for their age, size, and developmental stage."

Hyundai’s Ongoing Commitment to Safety

This partnership reflects Hyundai Motor America's steadfast commitment to fostering safer communities. Hyundai Hope, the corporation's social responsibility initiative, is dedicated to promoting community wellbeing through partnerships with children’s hospitals nationwide. The initiative not only supports car seat inspections and safety education but also aims to empower all caregivers to protect their loved ones while traveling.
