GSSM Summer Camps Expansion
The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) has unveiled exciting news for students and families across the Palmetto State. In a bid to broaden access to STEM education, GSSM has expanded its GoSciTech Day Camps to include four additional technical colleges, resulting in a total of 14 locations statewide. This initiative justifies GSSM's commitment to nurturing young minds in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, especially for those in rural and underserved communities.
Exciting New Locations
The newly added host sites for the GSSM summer camps comprise:
- - Aiken Technical College in Graniteville
- - Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood
- - Trident Technical College in North Charleston
- - Williamsburg Technical College in Kingstree
Offering hands-on STEM experiences, these camps cater to rising 6th through 8th graders. Every four-day program runs from Monday to Thursday, taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students will delve into areas like engineering, human biology, and coding, critically enhancing their problem-solving and teamwork skills.
A Worthy Investment in Education
Susan Engelhardt, the outreach director for summer programs at GSSM, expressed her enthusiasm about the growth of the GoSciTech Day Camps. "These camps provide an engaging introduction to STEM that could ignite a lifelong passion for learning in students," Engelhardt stated. Through GSSM's collaboration with various technical colleges, they're bringing these modern and enriching experiences much closer to home, which is particularly beneficial for families who otherwise face challenges in accessing such educational opportunities.
Connecting with like-minded peers who share similar interests is a vital aspect of the camp experience. According to Engelhardt, families looking for a summer program that fosters creativity and real-world problem-solving skills will find GoSciTech Day Camps to be an excellent option.
