LODD Autonomous Achieves Milestone with Hili's First Successful Flight in the UAE

LODD Autonomous Marks New Era in Drone Technology

In a historic event for the aviation and logistics sectors, LODD Autonomous has successfully conducted the first flight of Hili, heralding it as the UAE's first hybrid heavy-lift UAV. This landmark achievement took place during the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week at LODD’s flight testing facility located at Emirates Falcon Aviation in Al Ain. By launching Hili, LODD underscores its commitment to advancing autonomous aviation technology and enhances the freight logistics capabilities of the region.

Developed, built, and rigorously tested in Abu Dhabi, Hili represents a significant leap forward in the UAE's capabilities in aerospace technology, focusing on reliable and safe transportation solutions. This hybrid vertical take-off and landing aircraft can carry a payload of 250 kilograms over distances of up to 700 kilometers. It combines hybrid-electric propulsion with a modular design, making it an efficient option for both regional and international logistics networks.

The successful flight is seen not only as a technical accomplishment but also as a crucial milestone in the UAE's pursuit to foster advanced aircraft manufacturing capabilities. Rashid Al Manai, CEO of LODD Autonomous, emphasized this flight as a testament to the UAE's engineering strengths and innovative potential, stating, "Hili exemplifies our capability to deliver world-class innovations in aviation. This achievement highlights the UAE’s position as a global hub for advanced aviation technology."

Collaboration with Global Leaders

Demonstrating its growing influence, LODD Autonomous has forged pivotal partnerships to enhance drone logistics. Earlier this month, it signed a memorandum of understanding with Etihad Cargo, the cargo division of the UAE's national airline, making Etihad the first user of a uniquely designed and locally manufactured aircraft. This collaboration strengthens the national airline's capability in aerial freight operations, further underpinning the UAE's ambitions in the autonomous flight sector.

On November 10, coinciding with the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Summit, LODD also entered a strategic partnership with EMX, facilitated by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), aimed at integrating drone logistics into smart, next-generation supply chains. This collaboration is expected to boost the operational efficiency and effectiveness of logistics networks across various sectors.

Additionally, LODD signed an agreement with Skyports Drone Services during the first flight celebrations. Skyports is renowned for its drone delivery services across a range of clients including the NHS and several energy companies. With Hili's capabilities, Skyports sees potential for significantly enhancing its heavy-lift drone operations.

Further expanding its global reach, LODD partnered with ST Engineering of Singapore to introduce Hili to key markets in the Asia-Pacific region. This collaboration aims to solidify Hili’s footprint in crucial markets while promoting technological exchange and innovation.

Towards a Sustainable Future

The successful first flight of Hili is a reflection of the UAE's broader vision for sustainable logistics and smart mobility. LODD is committed to ensuring that Hili not only meets current logistical demands but also adheres to stringent performance and quality standards. Through an innovative mindset, LODD Autonomous aims to create a robust ecosystem that redefines air mobility and logistics, emphasizing sustainability and scalability.

In conclusion, LODD Autonomous stands at the forefront of redefining transportation logistics in the UAE and beyond. The advances represented by Hili are indicative of the UAE’s dedication to fostering autonomous systems that not only meet domestic needs but also position the country as a leader on the global stage for technological advancements in aviation.
