OMRON Healthcare Enhances AFib Detection and Provides 4,000 Blood Pressure Monitors

OMRON Healthcare's Commitment to Health

In a significant step towards enhancing cardiovascular health, OMRON Healthcare Co., Ltd. has pledged to donate 4,000 blood pressure monitors as part of its ongoing support for May Measurement Month (MMM). This campaign, designed to raise awareness about blood pressure management, aligns with WHO recommendations for early detection and treatment of hypertension. Notably, the donated devices will include advanced monitors with Intellisense AFib technology that can detect potential atrial fibrillation during measurements.

The Importance of Blood Pressure Monitoring

Blood pressure is a critical factor in cardiovascular health, with high blood pressure linked to serious conditions such as heart attacks and strokes. The WHO reports over 10 million deaths globally each year due to high blood pressure, making regular monitoring crucial. OMRON has collaborated with MMM since 2017, contributing nearly 30,000 blood pressure monitors across 100 countries. This initiative not only empowers individuals to monitor their blood pressure regularly but also promotes early detection of AFib—a condition that greatly increases the risk of stroke.

Professor Neil R. Poulter, a key researcher in the initiative, emphasizes the importance of understanding these health risks. He stated, “Atrial fibrillation can be life-threatening, especially for those with high blood pressure. Regular monitoring is essential for detection and management. Our donation will aid in the early recognition of these risks.”

Driving Awareness and Prevention

The MMM campaign will run from May 1 to July 31, incorporating workshops and practical demonstrations for attendees to learn proper blood pressure measurement techniques and dietary guidance. Attendees will also have access to on-site evaluations assessing their atrial fibrillation risk through blood pressure checks and electrocardiogram (EKG) recordings.

Research shows that individuals with hypertension have a threefold higher likelihood of experiencing AFib compared to those with normal blood pressure levels. By donating devices that can identify this condition, OMRON is playing a crucial role in public health education, especially among those with high blood pressure.

With the company's ongoing commitment to advancing home health monitoring technologies, OMRON Healthcare is positioned as a leader, having sold over 350 million clinical devices globally. Their adherence to preventive healthcare reflects in their corporate philosophy, emphasizing a vision of
