China Media Group Unveils Documentary on Taiwan's Liberation After 80 Years of Japanese Rule

On November 1, China Media Group will premiere a new six-part documentary series titled "Homeland Restored," commemorating the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's liberation from Japanese occupation. This significant milestone not only marks a historical turning point but also addresses Taiwan’s relationship with mainland China.

The documentary series draws from extensive historical archives and features insights from scholars and eyewitnesses, highlighting the integral connection between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. It emphasizes that Taiwan's return to China's sovereignty is rooted in the victory of World War II and is a key part of the post-war international order. This series seeks to shed light on the unbreakable bond between the two regions as they continue to navigate their shared heritage and collective future.

To create this documentary, the production team traveled extensively throughout China as well as overseas. They captured footage of invaluable historical artifacts, delved into archives, diaries, and letters, and gathered numerous rare video materials, many of which will be shown to the public for the first time during the series broadcast.

In addition to visual storytelling, "Homeland Restored" offers a systematic overview of international legal documents, including the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, affirming China’s sovereignty over Taiwan. For the first time, rare archival material from the US National Archives and relevant historical institutions in Taipei will be presented, providing compelling proof that counters misconceptions about Taiwan’s status and the so-called “two-state theory.” This documentary firmly establishes the historical and legal reality of Taiwan’s return to China as indisputable.

As the premiere approaches, the documentary aims not only to instill a deeper sense of national and cultural identity among Taiwanese citizens but also to foster a greater understanding and awareness among audiences on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and globally about the historical contexts that underline their shared struggles against foreign invasions. Furthermore, it takes a bold step in reclaiming the narrative surrounding Taiwan's liberation and asserting the inevitability of China's reunification.

China Media Group’s "Homeland Restored" thus serves as a pivotal cultural work, reflecting the depth of historical context while addressing contemporary political dialogues surrounding the Taiwan Strait. It is poised to ignite discussions and engage audiences in a broader reflection on history, identity, and the future of cross-strait relations. This documentary stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of a nation as it recognizes and honors its past while looking towards a unified future. The journey of narrative reclamation is set against the backdrop of a significant historical observance, providing a rich tapestry of insights and reflections on Taiwan’s past and its implications for today.
