Welcome to the 2025 Relay For Life of Conejo Valley!
The American Cancer Society is back with the much-anticipated
2025 Relay For Life of Conejo Valley on
September 27, running from
8:30 AM to 8:30 PM at the picturesque California Lutheran University Memorial Field in Thousand Oaks, California. This year is particularly special as it marks the
40th anniversary of the Relay For Life nationwide, aptly themed
40 Years of Impact.
The event kicks off with a
non-competitive 5.0K fun run, designed to engage participants of all ages and fitness levels. This fun run will set the tone for a day full of inspiration and action, symbolizing the fight against cancer. After the run, teams will take to the track for a continuous walk throughout the day, ensuring that at least one member from each team is present for the entire 12-hour event. Participants and teams can also set up booths to host engaging fundraising games, including silent auctions, all aimed at supporting the American Cancer Society.
More than just a walk, Relay For Life fosters a sense of community and collective purpose among participants. It serves as a powerful platform to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those we have lost, and rally together to raise funds for critical cancer research and patient support programs.
The day’s festivities will commence with a fun run, progressing into an emotional opening ceremony featuring a survivor lap at
9:30 AM. As the sun sets, around
7 PM, we will observe the poignant
luminaria ceremony, where participants will honor loved ones lost to cancer and those currently battling it. This serene time will include a reflective silent lap, adding a deeply emotional and inspiring vibe to the day.
Expect a lively atmosphere filled with activities for all ages, local musicians providing a soundtrack of diverse tunes, and food available for donations to the American Cancer Society, reinforcing the community spirit behind this grand occasion.
According to Abby Smith, Senior Development Manager at the American Cancer Society, "Come join us for an unforgettable day for the entire family at California Lutheran University in celebration of Relay For Life's 40th anniversary. About the American Cancer Society Relay For Life
The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is more than just a community walk; it represents a global movement committed to eradicating cancer. The idea for Relay For Life began with Dr. Gordon "Gordy" Klatt, who in May 1985, walked and ran for
24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, raising funds to combat America’s greatest health challenge—cancer. From his initial effort, which drew support from friends and family and generated
$27,000, Relay For Life has blossomed into a nationwide phenomenon, uniting people in their shared goal of conquering cancer.
