Revolutionizing Business Growth with AI-Driven UBB Insights from Huawei's James Chen

Transforming Business Landscapes with AI in UBB

In a groundbreaking keynote at the 11th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2025, James Chen, the President of Huawei Carrier Business, unveiled a wealth of innovative practices devised in partnership with telecom operators. These advancements aim to stimulate growth through Ultra-Broadband (UBB) technology empowered by artificial intelligence. His address, titled "Triple Leap to AI UBB: Inspiration for New Business Growth," focused on how AI-driven innovations are reshaping the landscape for businesses in the digital era.

Chen highlighted the significant opportunities presented by leapfrog innovations in three distinct dimensions: depth, breadth, and height. Each dimension offers unique pathways for operators to enhance their service offerings and stay competitive.

Depth: Transitioning to Experience-Based Monetization

Historically, telecom operators focused on bandwidth monetization. However, the paradigm is shifting towards experience-based monetization. By integrating AI capabilities into their networks, operators can pinpoint areas for enhancing user experiences and actively manage the quality of critical applications such as cloud gaming and 4K live streaming. This shift in focus enables a transformation from user-level experience monetization to application-level monetization.

For instance, a leading operator in Thailand leveraged Huawei's AI WAN solutions to develop features ensuring application-level experiences. This not only delivered smooth gaming experiences for users but also substantially increased their Average Revenue Per User (ARPU).

Breadth: Embracing Digital Intelligence and Computing Services

The business potential extends into various markets as well. In domestic networking, global operators manage over 1 billion home gateways, positioning them strategically to transition from being mere internet service providers to becoming smart home service providers. Huawei's newly developed AI Homehub has facilitated a 60% increase in ARPU for operators who adopted smart home services.

In the realm of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), operators are using Fiber to the Office (FTTO) solutions to deliver standardized digital and intelligent services like IoT and video services. Major Chinese telecom operators have already deployed these solutions, catering to over 2 million FTTO users.

For medium and large enterprises, the integration of Wi-Fi-based sensing and communication has opened doors to innovative growth. For example, an operator in the UAE employed Huawei's AirEngine Wi-Fi 7 to offer Wi-Fi as a Service, resulting in a 67% reduction in total ownership costs for their sensor systems in meeting rooms.

Height: Advanced Network Operations for Intelligent Operations

The operational capabilities of networks are also seeing a significant evolution. Operators can now elevate their systems from manually controlled operations to an autonomous level of intelligence. A notable collaboration between Huawei and MasOrange in Spain led to the establishment of Europe's first Level 4 autonomous IP network. This setup, utilizing iMaster NCE, has minimized average repair times, enhancing user satisfaction.

As Chen concluded his address, he emphasized that AI UBB is just in its nascent stages. Huawei looks forward to fostering further innovations in collaboration with operators and industry partners. The ultimate goal is to assist operators in thriving in the AI era by monetizing user experiences, generating new growth vectors, and reducing operational costs.

Through these pioneering initiatives, Huawei is not just shaping the future of telecommunications but also redefining how businesses leverage technology to achieve sustainable growth in an increasingly digital landscape.
