SENDAGAYA TERRACE: A New Design Concept in Urban Living Spaces

SENDAGAYA TERRACE: A Vision of Urban Design

An Overview of the Project

The SENDAGAYA TERRACE, developed by Shimada Asset Partners Inc., is an innovative mixed-use building that combines offices and residential units. Officially completed in April 2025, this architecturally visionary project is situated in the heart of Tokyo's vibrant Sendagaya district. Following the success of the award-winning ROPPONGI TERRACE in 2021, this latest venture exemplifies creative urban design in collaboration with the renowned architecture firm, C.A.A. (Cylindrical Archives and Associates).

Addressing Challenges in Urban Living

Sendagaya is a neighborhood known for its lively intersection of fashion, sports, and cultural activities. The SENDAGAYA TERRACE stands out as a solution to the challenges posed by densely populated urban environments, consisting of six office units and two row houses. This design strives to create an airy, terrace-like atmosphere that allows natural light and fresh air to flow freely, despite the high-density backdrop of the city.

Given the complex conditions of the site—containing a narrow access road, significant elevation changes, and a compact residential area—the design maximizes usable space while ensuring that light and shadow play across the concrete surfaces, changing with the seasons.

Architectural Highlights

A central staircase effectively divides the structure, creating a visual connection to the greenery on the northern side and enhancing the overall landscape. One of the distinctive features of SENDAGAYA TERRACE is the installation of windows that can be fully opened, promoting a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Inside, different floor levels define unique areas within the compact layout. The use of four types of concrete forms results in a harmonious yet diverse textural experience. This attention to materiality enriches the architectural narrative of the space.

Residents of the upper-level units can enjoy exclusive access via a private elevator, which provides stunning views of the city’s skyline from the rooftop terrace.
