Why Decision-Making Has Become a Challenge for Companies in the AI Era

Understanding the Challenge of Decision-Making in the AI Era

In recent years, the workplace has undergone significant transformations driven by work style reforms, efficiency campaigns, standardization, and digitalization. While these changes were believed to improve productivity, they have led to unexpected consequences, particularly affecting decision-making abilities within many organizations.

The Shift in Decision-Making

According to a comprehensive report by Request Inc., based on data from over 338,000 individuals across 980 companies, 82% of these organizations have observed a decline in decision-making experience among their employees. Notably, this trend is not isolated to a few companies but is widespread across the corporate landscape, impacting both large enterprises and medium-sized businesses alike.

Before the advent of generative AI, many roles already required decision-making rooted in factual verification. Different customers have unique circumstances, cases come with varying constraints, and field conditions differ among teams. Therefore, decision-making has always necessitated a careful analysis of what sets each situation apart, alongside identifying what needs verification and prioritization.

However, with the operational shift towards efficiency and the implementation of standard procedures, the need for individual judgment appears to have diminished. Companies promoted methodologies such as process management and automation to enhance productivity. Although these efforts were intended to streamline operations and stabilize quality, they inadvertently diminished the opportunities for employees to engage in decision-making.
